- Innovation is a member of the Haskayne Centres team within the Haskayne School of Business (HSB).
The Program
Advisor, Entrepreneurship &
- Innovation reports to the Associate Director, Haskayne Centres and collaborates with team members along with faculty, staff, students, alumni, industry partners and community volunteers to advance the priorities and objectives of the Haskayne Centres in alignment with the HSB Strategic Plan.
The Haskayne Centres are responsible for delivering impactful student experiences through thought leadership, learning opportunities and meaningful engagement with the community on campus, in Calgary and beyond.
The Haskayne
Centres currently include the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, the Canadian Centre for Advanced Leadership, the Westman Centre for Real Estate Studies, the Trico Foundation Social Entrepreneurship Centre as well as centre-agnostic programs such as Propel and Real Deal. Established through philanthropy and community investment, the Centres provide unique and transformative experiences at the intersection of students, faculty and the business community. - Innovation primarily manages the implementation and execution of the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation programming and initiatives, working to improve knowledge retention and student engagement and to help students bridge the gap between theory and professional practice.
This position requires high-level, discretionary decision-making, the ability to communicate professionally with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders and the ability to work independently while keeping current with trends in experiential learning, entrepreneurship and innovation. Stressors include dealing with the demands of competing and concurrent deadlines, including managing multiple project implementations and large-scale events simultaneously.
Due to the operational requirements of this position, the role is predominantly on-campus. The primary working hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M., 7 hours per day (35 hours per week); however, flexibility is essential, including some evening and weekend work. This position is part of the AUPE Collective Bargaining Unit.

The Program Advisor, Entrepreneurship &
- Innovation is responsible for the successful execution of existing programs and continuous improvement of programs and initiatives, under the direction of the Associate Director, Haskayne Centres and with the support of the Haskayne Centres team. This position manages programs through the entire programming cycle, including needs assessment/diagnostic, design, delivery, evaluation, and reporting. This process involves extensive stakeholder engagement, data collection and effective project management.
Program and Project Management
- Consults with the Haskayne Centres team and stakeholders to determine programming objectives and takes responsibility for planning the scope and format of programming.[LB4.1][BR4.2]
- Fully responsible for the planning and execution of multiple initiatives, including largescale events and programming that are evolving and long-term in nature; the focus is on relevant, meaningful community engagement and impactful student experiences connected to these opportunities.
- Increases awareness of the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation across all programs (MBA, Master of Management, Master of Finance, BComm).
- Ensures that program logistics and preparations (such as virtual and in-person venue arrangements, catering, signage, invitations, accommodations, transportation, etc.) are organized, documented, communicated, and implemented.
- Develops timelines, prepares all collateral (program brief, speaking notes, presentations, invitations, etc.)
and provides information to all relevant stakeholders by telephone, email or in person prior to and throughout the program.
- Responsible for budget tracking and expense reconciliations within assigned portfolio. Seeks out partnerships and opportunities for collaboration with knowledge of professional development activities for students and faculty in the entrepreneurship and innovation industry in Calgary and Alberta.
- Coordinates the collection of metrics related to community engagement initiatives to inform the Centres' strategic plans, continuous improvement, and donor stewardship and reporting.
Leadership in Experiential Learning for Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programs
- Supports and promotes experiential learning within the faculty and to stakeholders.
- Remains current in emerging experiential learning theory and practice, such as service learning, work-based learning, action research, and community-based learning.
- Researches and designs experiential learning strategies and processes. In collaboration with the Haskayne Centres team, engages current and prospective community partners to advance experiential learning opportunities within the entrepreneurship and innovation portfolio.
- Works collaboratively with faculty and administration to nurture relationships with external stakeholders, including identifying students for key external opportunities and facilitating connections to these opportunities.
- Engages local, regional, national, and global communities through the implementation of the Centres' initiatives.
- Demonstrates creativity and initiative to support continuous improvement and encourage positive outcomes.
Collaborating and Advising
- Works collaboratively with the Haskayne Centres team, the Student Services team and other HSB units to support opportunities to advance in-class experiential learning where applicable.
- Provides support as needed to faculty and teaching assistants in relation to the courses supported by the Haskayne Centres.
- With support and guidance from the Associate Director, Haskayne Centres, recruits entrepreneurial advisors for programs and initiatives.
- Guides community partners and students through the Haskayne Centres' experiential learning process and approach.
- Supports the development of opportunities for collaboration and partnership with leading local, national, and international academic institutions and organizations active in the entrepreneurship and innovation industry.
- Actively engages Haskayne alumni.
- Advises students and guides them in finding appropriate resources and opportunities that maximize their development as it relates to entrepreneurship and innovation, with support from the Associate Director, Haskayne Centres.
Qualifications / Requirements
- Undergraduate degree, certificate, or diploma in event management, business, or a related field involving entrepreneurship and innovation is required.
- 3 or more years of experience in program delivery, event or project management is required.
- Knowledge of and experience in entrepreneurship and innovation is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of experiential learning programs and best practices is considered an asset.
- Demonstrated experience developing collaborative relationships with both internal and external stakeholders is required.
- Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills to deal effectively with complex tasks and issues are required.
- Proven ability to meet competing and concurrent deadlines in a fast-paced environment with constantly shifting priorities is required.
- Strong skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office are required.
- Ability to collaborate with faculty and staff to enhance the student learning experience and increase engagement is required.
- Ability to establish personal credibility within HSB and the University of Calgary is required.
- Proven record of building and maintaining successful business relationships with all stakeholders is crucial to the success of this role.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a proven record of working collaboratively, nurturing positive working relationships with faculty, staff, and community partners, is critical to the success of this role.
- Knowledge of University academic policies and regulations, including copyright and FOIP, is an asset.
