A typical day for the Senior Business Analyst
As a Senior Business Analyst, you will provide senior-level business analysis, project leadership, project coordination and client relationship management for high-priority corporate and technology initiatives. Depending on the size and complexity of the work, you may lead smaller initiatives or support larger projects as part of a multidisciplinary project delivery team.
You will work with business areas, project teams, technical partners and external stakeholders to understand needs, assess options, define requirements and support the design and delivery of effective business and system solutions.
- Facilitate working sessions, interviews and discussions with stakeholders to clarify needs, document requirements and support decision-making.
- Lead or support the planning and coordination of projects and initiatives, including scope definition, scheduling, resource analysis, risk management, testing, implementation and post-implementation review activities.
- Develop project plans, statements of work, estimates, reporting materials and governance artifacts to support effective delivery of smaller projects and initiatives.
- Monitor project progress, identify risks and issues,
facilitate decisions, and work with stakeholders to address challenges that may impact scope, schedule, budget or outcomes.
- Conduct research, feasibility studies, business case analysis, impact assessments and risk analysis to support recommendations.
- Identify operational impacts from new tools, systems or processes and develop change management, communication and training approaches to support adoption.
- Build strong relationships and serve as a key liaison between business stakeholders, technical teams, vendors and external stakeholders.
- Lead business requirements gathering, process review and solution design activities, translating business needs into clear design specifications, process models, use cases, reports, testing plans, etc., which support the successful implementation of corporate and IT-enabled initiatives.
- Provide guidance, coaching and business analysis expertise to colleagues, project teams and business partners.
What you bring
You bring a strong mix of business analysis expertise, project delivery experience, relationship-building skills and sound judgement. You are able to work independently, manage competing priorities and communicate complex information clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
- University degree with four years of directly related experience; or diploma with six to eight years of directly related experience; or certificate with nine years of directly related experience.
- Senior-level experience in business analysis and project coordination, process design, business case development, project planning, stakeholder engagement, solution assessment, testing, and implementation.
- Ability to build trusted relationships, influence without direct authority, consult with stakeholders and support agreement on recommended actions.
- Experience supporting corporate or technology initiatives from initiation through implementation, including testing,
change management and post-implementation review.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, research, statistical and financial analysis skills.
- Excellent written, verbal, facilitation and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate clearly across different audiences and levels of the organization.
- Experience coordinating projects through a structured project lifecycle, including planning, scheduling, risk management, issue resolution, status reporting and benefits realization.
- Ability to proactively identify project risks, dependencies and operational impacts and develop practical mitigation strategies.
- Strong knowledge of project delivery methodologies, business analysis practices, risk management, governance frameworks and continuous improvement methods.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools and project or portfolio management software; experience with Microsoft Project is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of pension services, public sector operations or a regulated environment is considered an asset.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with tact, discretion and professionalism.
