Grow with us, H2O+U.Your OpportunityThe role of a junior civil engineer is to work as a team member with intermediate and senior engineers as part of project teams of all sizes. You should be able to evaluate, select, specify, and engineer systems or products for a project. You will perform a variety of tasks which may include calculations, field work, coordination of tasks, and meeting attendance and recording. In general, this role will assist more senior engineers/designers by performing the routine aspects of civil engineering assignments and may assist in the analysis of proposed projects.Your Key ResponsibilitiesPerform civil engineering design which may include engineering drawings, hydraulic system calculations, pipe design calculations, engineering reports, design criteria, and prepare applications for regulatory agencies.Assist in the preparation of engineering project documents, client presentations, client contact and communication pertaining to specific project deliverables.Attend and assist in client, contractor, stakeholder, and regulatory agency meetings to gain a better understanding of client’s goals, project requirements, site assessments, key challenges, coordination.Assist in the development of design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams,



and other visual formats.Recognize when technical problems are developing and initiate appropriate corrective actions.Coordinate with other disciplines to ensure compatibility with the design intent.Assist with the development of job specific discipline specifications.Assist in the review of shop drawings and submittals, respond to requests for information, prepare site observation reports, and perform other contract administration tasks.Assist in the evaluation and selection of civil systems and materials.Participate in value engineering and basic cost estimating.May conduct construction inspection services and may assist with construction contract administration duties.Support the civil team in providing services during construction that can include submittal reviews, responses to requests for information and contract document clarifications.Your Capabilities and CredentialsGeneral understanding of concepts of relevant areas of civil engineering design, including gravity and pressure systems, geotechnical, survey, storm water/drainage design, road design, erosion and sediment control, and grading.Understanding of all phases of engineering document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.Recognizes when technical problems are developing and initiates appropriate corrective actions using sound professional judgment, creativity and innovation.Working knowledge of codes, legal and design requirements in relevant jurisdictions and developing jurisdictional experience and contacts.Ability to solve problems using sound professional judgment, creativity and innovation.Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.Ability to interpret sketches,



drawings and other similar material.Proficiency in Microsoft Office, as well as relevant discipline software programs.Knowledge and skill with AutoCAD, Civil3D, PCSWMM, StormCAD, WaterCAD, (or other modeling software) is considered an asset.Take initiative on tasks and in coordinating with other members of the design team.Developing ability to effectively discuss project issues with clients and reviewing agencies.Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to work efficiently and effectively within a team.Education and ExperienceBachelor’s degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering. Working toward licensure as a Skilled Engineer.Minimum of 2 years of experienceTypical office environment working with computers and working at a desk for long periods of time. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
