Position Overview

Cameray Child and Family Services is seeking a full-time Sexual Assault & Child and Family Counsellor to provide trauma-informed clinical counselling to individuals who have experienced sexual assault, sexual abuse, and trauma, as well as to children, youth, and families.

This 35-hour-per-week position includes 25 hours of sexual assault counselling and 10 hours of child and family counselling. The counsellor will provide individual and group therapy, treatment planning, crisis intervention, case management, referrals, advocacy, and clinical consultation as part of a multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will bring a client-centered, strengths-based, trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and culturally responsive approach to clinical practice.

Key Responsibilities

Sexual Assault Counselling – 25 Hours/Week

- Provide individual and group counselling to clients who have experienced sexual assault and/or sexual abuse.
- Conduct assessments and develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with clients.
- Provide trauma-informed counselling and crisis intervention as required.
- Manage an assigned caseload effectively and work to minimize client wait times.
- Monitor and evaluate client progress and adjust treatment plans as appropriate.
- Provide advocacy, information, resources, and referrals.
- Collaborate with Cameray's Victim Support Worker and clinical team.
- Liaise with external agencies and professionals for consultation, referrals, and coordinated client care.
- Participate in case conferences, clinical consultations, and team meetings.

Child & Family Counselling – 10 Hours/Week
- Provide individual and/or group counselling to children, youth, and families.
- Provide developmentally appropriate, trauma-informed therapeutic interventions.
- Support children and families affected by abuse, neglect, family conflict, trauma, and other complex circumstances.
- Develop treatment plans, monitor progress, and review treatment goals.




- Provide case management, advocacy, resources, and referrals as required.
- Establish respectful, strengths-based therapeutic relationships with children, youth, and families.
- Prepare and maintain appropriate therapeutic environments, including play and/or art therapy spaces where applicable.
- Participate in case conferences, team meetings, and clinical collaboration.

Referral, Consultation & Coordination:
- Provide information, consultation, and referrals to clients and families.
- Coordinate services with the Victim Support Worker, clinical staff, social workers, and other professionals.
- Liaise with external agencies and service providers to support client care.
- Promote continuity of care and appropriate transitions between services.

Administration & Documentation:
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential client records.
- Document assessments, client visits, treatment plans, progress, and other clinical information.
- Prepare progress reports and required documentation.
- Complete required data collection and clinical statistics.
- Submit timesheets and other administrative information as required.
- Follow organizational policies, professional standards, and applicable legislation.

Direct Service Requirement: The position has a strong focus on direct clinical service:
- Sexual Assault Counselling: 25 hours/week, with a minimum of 50% (12.5 hours/week) in direct client service hours.
- Child & Family Counselling: 10 hours/week, with a minimum annual fiscal target of 211.5 direct client service hours.

Qualifications

- Master's degree in Counselling, Social Work, Psychology, Education, or a related field (M.S.W., M.A., M.Ed., or equivalent).
- Minimum of two years of clinical counselling experience.
- Minimum of two years of experience working with clients who have experienced sexual assault, sexual abuse, and/or trauma is strongly preferred.
- Training and experience in sexual assault/sexual abuse counselling.
- Experience providing individual and group therapy.




- Experience working with children, youth, and families.
- In-depth knowledge of sexual assault and sexual abuse dynamics.
- Strong understanding of trauma and its impact on individuals and families.
- Crisis intervention skills and experience.
- Training in play therapy, art therapy, or other child-focused therapeutic approaches is an asset.
- Registration or eligibility for registration with BCACC, BCASW, BCATA, or another relevant skilled body is required.
- Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.

- Experience engaging clients who may be reluctant, ambivalent, or difficult to engage.
- Commitment to inclusive, anti-oppressive, egalitarian, and collegial practice.
- Cultural competence and awareness of the social and economic diversity of the populations served, including Indigenous, 2SLGBTQ+, newcomer, racialized, and other marginalized communities.
