Position Summary The Transportation Supervisor is responsible for supporting and overseeing drayage transportation operations, including carrier management, shipment monitoring, delivery scheduling, capacity sourcing, and performance tracking. This role works closely with drayage carriers, customers, and internal teams to ensure timely and efficient shipment movement, resolve urgent transportation issues, and identify alternative capacity solutions when needed.
The position also supports transportation performance analysis, KPI reporting, corrective action planning, and continuous improvement initiatives to improve service levels, transit times, and logistics efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and manage the drayage process of shipment movement.
- Manage relationships with selected drayage carriers and make urgent communication in case of emergency.
- Search plan B drayage carriers in case of lack of capacities.
- Share daily container delivery schedules with drayage carriers.
- Analyze, create, edit, track and trace select LSPs such as drayage carriers.
- Monitor and drive improvement to customer service goals including on-time delivery, product lead-times, and request-for-quote responsiveness.
- In case of using a pre-pull yard, find the best solutions in time.
- Report monthly on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for drayage deliveries.
- Check delivery status and share updates with customers.
- Document corrective actions and improvement plans properly, and verify plan effectiveness.
- Perform ad-hoc reporting, as required.
- Perform other job-related duties as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree preferred or GED.
- In-depth understanding of the U.S. transportation, especially inland transportation, and/or freight forwarding industry.
- Excellent project and people management skills.
- Ability to monitor and manage the drayage process for freight shipments, including GPS monitoring, timeliness control, and performance evaluation systems.
- Ability to manage relationships with selected drayage carriers and make urgent communication in case of emergency.
- Ability to manage relationships with designated drayage carriers and provide immediate communication during emergencies.
- Experience in developing transportation plans to optimize load rates, transit times, and logistics costs.
- Ability to manage within timelines, budgets, and business objectives.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite and other applications.
- Solid analytical, focused, and data-driven skills with creative problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent cross-functional teamwork, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, as well as strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize and shift work focus to urgent issues without impacting other work.
- Ability to undertake up to 20% domestic and international travel.
