Primary & Casual On-Call Tow Operators Sparwood / Elk Valley Starting at $27/hr+ based on experience and licence class.
Looking for something a little different than the typical 9–5?
Sparwood Towing is looking to add a few reliable people to our on-call team, and we're willing to train the right people.
WE'RE LOOKING FOR TWO TYPES OF OPERATORS: PRIMARY ON-CALL OPERATORS Operators with fairly open availability who can take regular on-call rotations, including weekends and holidays.
CASUAL ON-CALL OPERATORS Perfect for someone looking for occasional or extra work.
Casual operators may be called for: Days off and vacation coverage Call-ins or unexpected absences Busy periods when multiple trucks are needed Larger collisions or recoveries requiring additional personnel Accident-scene cleanup and assistance Extra roadside and towing calls You don't necessarily need to be available every day. We'd rather know when we can count on you.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Valid Class 5 driver's licence with air brake endorsement Able to drive a manual transmission Comfortable driving in all weather conditions Comfortable working on highways, intersections and around moving traffic Able to respond promptly when scheduled or on call Willing to work weekends and holidays as part of your availability or rotation Local to the area due to emergency-response requirements.
Class 3 or Class 1? Even better. We operate deck trucks and wreckers, as well as tandem decks requiring a minimum Class 3 licence.
AN IMPORTANT PART OF THE JOB: Towing isn't always just picking up a broken-down vehicle. We respond to RCMP calls and serious motor vehicle collisions, and operators must be able to remain calm, professional and respectful at potentially traumatic scenes. This can include collisions involving serious injuries or fatalities, as well as damaged vehicles and accident-scene cleanup.
It's an important reality of the job, and we want applicants to understand that before signing up.
NOT AN EXPERIENCED TOW OPERATOR? That's okay. We're willing to train the right people. If you're reliable, safety-minded, mechanically inclined, comfortable around vehicles and willing to learn, we'd like to hear from you.
The job can include: Towing and recoveries, RCMP and emergency calls, Battery boosts, Vehicle lockouts, Tire change,s Collision assistance and cleanup Mechanically inclined? There may also be opportunities for additional hours helping in the shop with truck repairs, maintenance and PMs.
ABOUT THE ON-CALL PART: We know on-call work isn't always easy. We're a small-town business, and we'll do our best to work with you and your availability. Hours cannot be guaranteed, but operators with open availability will be called as often as we can use them. Our biggest ask is simple: If you tell us you're available, we need to be able to count on you. We'll respect the availability you give us, and in return, we ask that you honour the schedule you've committed to. Communication goes a long way, and we'll do our best to make the arrangement work for everyone.
LOCAL APPLICANTS ONLY Because of the on-call and emergency-response nature of these positions, applicants must already live within a reasonable response distance.
Unfortunately, we cannot hold positions while applicants relocate or secure housing.
