Position Summary
RST Engineering is currently seeking a Reality Capture / Mechanical Designer to join our multidisciplined engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible to:
- Provide leadership, mentoring, guidance and technical expertise to the project team
- Guide the overall technical design of various engineering projects in varying sectors
- Act as Project Manager (as required) being a key liaison with our client on associated projects.
- Develop scopes of work and project estimates
- Support estimates and proposals for submission to clients
- Operate and manage reality capture technologies such as laser scanners, drones, and other photogrammetry tools.
- Collect and process 3D data to develop accurate models, point clouds, and orthophotos using various software suites
- Utilize 3D data in engineering and construction project deliverables with the project teams.
- Develop, update, and manage quality and accuracy through calibration, validation, and documentation of reality capture processes.
- Stay current on current reality capture technologies and develop/train team members
- Produce mechanical/piping layout drawings, piping isometric drawings, tank data sheets, process and instrumentation/control diagrams, specifications and details, and generate bills of materials
- Work within both 2D and 3D model environments utilizing Autodesk products
- Conduct field visits to client facilities to collect site data, support construction, commissioning, and start-up
- Collaborate with the project team comprised of multidiscipline engineers, project managers, designers, and others, to develop drawings and specifications
- Ensure completion of work within allotted schedules and budgets while ensuring high-quality standards are maintained
- Proactively resolve performance, scope, and schedule issues with the PMs as they arise
- Offer support, mentoring, and guidance to other designers
- Develop and maintain positive, sustainable client relationships.
- Grow a complementary team of reality capture designers to support the business needs and grow technical expertise across a variety of multi-disciplined industrial engineering projects.
- Support the business in delivering cost-effective and right size solutions to our clients
Position Requirements
Key Requirements
- Diploma or degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Geomatics Engineering or related technology field.
- 5+ years of experience in reality capture and mechanical and piping modelling and design; survey experience is an asset
- Competent with tools such as Autodesk P3D, Autodesk ReCap, and Leica Cyclone software; Trimble experience is an asset
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- A collaborative mindset with great attention to detail.
- Experience with shop drawing reviews
- Familiarity with North American industry design codes (i.e. API, ASME, etc.)
- Experience in personnel development, mentoring and development is an asset
- Very strong communication skills (verbal and written), and strong collaboration skills with other team members and clients in a multi-disciplined environment
- Experience in a Project Management Role is an asset
