POSITION SUMMARY

The Food safety and Quality Assurance Supervisor supports
the practice of maintaining the highest level of food quality in Agrocorp’s
Processing Ltd.’s (APL’s) products. This includes but not limited to, ensuring
that products meet standards set by both the company and regulatory
authorities, managing audits and inspections by third-party inspectors,
training quality assurance/control employees, developing, reviewing, and
updating quality and safety Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and
overseeing production consistency and quality.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Food Safety and Quality Control

- Oversee the collection of samples and laboratory testing and perform data analysis to

determine that raw materials, packaging, and processed products meet all
quality standards.

- Conduct validation studies when changes are made to incoming raw materials, processing

aids, food manufacturing processes, or equipment.
- Oversee the collection, interpretation, and analysis of experimental data and develop

useful correlations to improve the manufacturing process.
- Maintain the master quality assurance calendar to identify and manage all quality

assurance standards and compliance-related activities.
- Oversee the completion of internal quality control audits to ensure customer standards and

compliance requirements are met, ensure all related non-conformance items are
remedied, and work with the Quality Control Coordinator and operations team on
implementing corrective and preventative measures.

- Oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of the Sample Monitoring Program

for raw materials, processing aids, and finished products to ensure consistency
of product quality, compliance to regulatory agency requirements, and
documentation of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) processes.

- Develop, review, implement, and maintain the Food Safety and Quality Management System (FSQMS), Good Operating Practices (GOPs), and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point

(HACCP) Plan.
- Create, maintain, and update controlled documents including Standard Operating

Procedures (SOPs), forms, and related materials.
- Develop, review, implement, and maintain the Food Safety and Quality Management System

(FSQMS), Good Operating Practices (GOPs), and HACCP Plan.
- Maintain accurate records to ensure consistency of product quality, compliance with

regulatory agency requirements, and documentation of HACCP processes.
- Provide technical support and training to the operations team on various quality and

food safety SOPs, GOPs, and the HACCP Plan, and coordinate with Human Resources
to ensure employee training records are kept current.

- Work alongside operations team on qualification, execution, validation, and confirmation of new processes, products, and equipment to the

processing line.
- Conduct internal audits of the plant, prepare and complete internal and external reports as needed and/or requested, and submit to applicable managers/agencies within required timelines.

- Operate, maintain, and repair laboratory equipment and make minor design changes as needed.
- Ensure the on-going calibration, verification,



and confirmation of measurement tools and production equipment.
- Manage the inventory of lab supplies and equipment.
- Suggest new solutions for laboratory equipment or suppliers for cost reductions and/or

improvement of lab work efficiency/productivity.
- Investigate food safety and/or quality non-conformance claims, prepare non-conformance reports, and work with the operations team to implement corrective and preventive measures.
- Operate, maintain, and repair laboratory equipment, ensuring the on-going calibration,

verification, and confirmation of measurement tools and production equipment.
- Maintain the inventory of lab supplies and equipment, assist with sourcing suppliers, and suggest new solutions for laboratory equipment, cost reductions, and/or improvements of lab work efficiency/productivity.

Plant Operations

- Keep plants clean and organized through daily cleaning and upkeep.
- Report any equipment deficiencies and mechanical issues immediately to the Shift Supervisor.
- Carry out regular maintenance, inspection, and cleaning, as directed.
- Carry out change over procedures.
- Ensure production is in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Ensure work is completed within standards that meet safety, regulatory compliance,

environment, quality, customer service and cost controls.
- Always follow good manufacturing processes, meeting industry regulations and equipment

protocols.
- Practice quality control protocol at all phases of production and shipping and receiving.
- Report on all quality issues and opportunities for improving quality control.

Teamwork

- Share knowledge and keep teammates abreast of any information or process changes affecting them.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings and team calls as required.
- Participatein cross-training to strengthen teams, create more opportunities for advancement within the department, and create redundancies for periods of employee leaves and turnover.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement.

Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

- Post-secondary education from a recognized institution in food sciences, agricultural science, or

related discipline, or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
- 5+ years’ experience working in Quality Control, food safety and quality assurance

activities of an organization in a manufacturing/processing environment.
- Extensive knowledge of and experience working with HACCP protocols and processes.
- Knowledge of the Food Safety System Certification (FSSC), Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI),

and ISO 22000 standards and protocols.
- Previous experience supervising and training employees.
- Proven ability to build strong customer relations.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills including extensive experience using Excel.
- Strong time management and organizational skills including the ability to manage conflicting

priorities.
- High level of attention to detail.
- Proven ability to foster effective interpersonal relationships within a geographically





and culturally diverse work setting.
- Ability to use initiative to identify problems and deliver solutions.
- Ability to handle confidential materials.

Special Conditions of Employment

- Rural location, no public transit.
- Mix of plant and office work workplace.
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time, bend, squat, and climb ladders and

stairs several times a day.
- Must be able to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions throughout the year.
- Tight deadlines, high-volume workload.
- CSA approved steel-toed boots are required.
- Some overtime may be required during evenings and weekends.

What You'll Bring

- Post-secondary education in Food Science, Agricultural Science, Food Technology, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5+ years of experience in Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Food Safety, or a related role within a food manufacturing or processing environment.
- Strong working knowledge and hands-on experience with HACCP, GMP/GOP, FSQMS, and food safety programs.
- Experience with FSSC 22000, GFSI, ISO 22000, and food safety certification requirements.
- Experience conducting internal audits, inspections, validation/verification activities, and corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Strong experience investigating and managing non-conformances, customer complaints, and quality issues.
- Previous experience supervising, leading, coaching, or training employees.
- Strong understanding of laboratory testing, calibration, quality documentation, and record keeping.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with production, operations, maintenance, logistics, and management teams.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced processing environment.
- Willingness to work in a rural plant environment and occasional evenings, weekends, or overtime as operationally required.
- Valid Class 5 driver's licence and reliable transportation to and from the Cut Knife facility.
