We are looking for someone with 2-4+ years of hands-on experience in a veterinary hospital or veterinary clinic who is comfortable assisting veterinarians with patient handling, examinations, procedures, surgery, dentistry, anesthesia monitoring, and general hospital duties.
The successful candidate should also be comfortable assisting with reception and client communication when needed.
Schedule will be arranged according to the needs of the hospital and the successful candidate’s availability.
Weekday and Saturday availability is preferred.

Additional hours may be available based on the successful candidate’s performance, reliability, availability, and the scheduling needs of the hospital.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will assist with:
- Safe and confident restraint and handling of dogs and cats
- Assisting veterinarians during examinations and procedures
- Drawing blood and assisting with laboratory procedures
- Preparing patients for surgery
- Assisting with surgical procedures
- Monitoring patients during anesthesia and recovery
- Assisting with dental procedures and dental X-rays
- Preparing treatment and surgical areas
- Cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining hospital and kennel areas
- Caring for hospitalized and recovering patients
- Preparing medications and treatment supplies as directed
- Maintaining clean, organized, and well-stocked treatment areas
- Maintaining accurate medical records
- Receiving clients and patients
- Answering telephone calls and responding to client inquiries
- Scheduling appointments
- Handling prescription/refill requests according to hospital protocols
- Assisting with client communication and follow-up
- Processing payments and assisting with reception duties
- Helping with general day-to-day hospital operations
Qualifications:
- 2–4+ years of veterinary hospital or veterinary clinic experience preferred
- Strong practical experience handling and restraining dogs and cats
- Comfortable assisting with blood collection
- Comfortable with anesthesia monitoring and patient recovery
- Experience assisting with surgery and dental procedures is an asset
- Veterinary Assistant education/certification is an asset
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Professional, dependable, punctual, and organized
- Able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Comfortable performing both clinical and reception duties
- English is required
- Mandarin, Cantonese, or another Chinese language is a strong asset
- Candidates living in Burlington, Oakville, Milton, or the Halton Region are strongly preferred because of the hospital’s location
Compensation:
- $19.00–$21.00 per hour, commensurate with experience, skills, and qualifications.
- Candidates with strong hands-on veterinary hospital experience and the ability to perform a broad range of clinical and reception responsibilities will be considered toward the higher end of the range.
