Founded in 1970, Steele Hotels is an independent hotel operator based out of Newfoundland and Labrador Canada. With origins in Gander, NL the company has grown to include 8 properties located in St. John's, NL, Corner Brook, NL, and Fredericton, NB.
Steele Hotels is looking for a part-time Host to join its growing team at our JAG Hotel in St. John’s, NL. The ideal candidate would possess a positive "can-do" attitude, and a high level of professionalism, coupled with a strong work ethic and critical thinking skills. This often involves working in fast-paced environment conditions at varying times throughout the day or night.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
- Maintain a clean and welcoming front-of-house experience and greet guests in a friendly and polite manner
- Coordinate with serving staff to ensure efficient seating arrangements
- Escort guests to tables
- Notify guests when a table becomes available and provide wait time information
- Manage reservations via phone, in-person, on through online platforms
- Answer incoming calls and address customer inquiries
- Assist with menu inquiries, answering questions about food and beverages, as needed
- Perform other duties, as assigned
Qualifications, Skills & Attributes:
- Availability to work weekday daytime hours, as well as evenings, weekends, and holidays, is required.
- Experience in hospitality is an asset
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with guests and manage inquiries
- Strong organizational skills to monitor reservations, wait times,
and table availability
- Attention to detail in maintaining a tidy, welcoming front-of-house environment
- Familiarity with health, safety, and food handling regulations
- Proficiency with reservation and POS systems
- Ability to remain calm and skilled in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment
- Problem-solving skills to managing seating challenges or special requests effectively
