Job Summary

The Team
The Natural Resource Officer Service (NROS) is on the front lines protecting BC’s cultural and natural treasures across nearly 95 million hectares. NROS delivers a full range of compliance and enforcement activities, including education, promotion and compliance with regulatory requirements and conducting major environmental investigations. Our officers enforce key provincial laws, tackle high impact investigations, and take on Criminal Code offences that threaten the province’s resources. The Role
The Natural Resource Officer (NRO) Sergeant leads the delivery of key operational priorities, guiding compliance and enforcement activities across their jurisdiction with confidence and expertise. In this energetic leadership role, the Sergeant drives strategic planning, oversees innovative operational programs, and supervises a dedicated team of 4–10 professional, technical, and administrative staff. Acting as a trusted authority within the region, the NRO Sergeant navigates complex and often urgent issues, which includes coordinating emergency responses, managing multi agency operations with partners such as the RCMP and Conservation Officer Service, and, when required, serving as a Special Provincial Constable. This role is ideal for a decisive, forward thinking leader committed to protecting natural resources and supporting safe, sustainable communities.

Qualifications:
Education:

- An acceptable degree or diploma in natural resource management or natural resource law enforcement, administrative law, natural resources or environmental law enforcement; OR,
- An acceptable degree or diploma in general law enforcement (i.e., Criminology, Justice Institute of BC Bachelor of Law Enforcement Studies).

Experience:

- Demonstrated experience in a capacity directly related to the focus of the position.
- Compliance and enforcement experience in a federal,



provincial or municipal public sector environment, or regulatory private sector setting, including conducting investigations and determining enforcement actions.
- Experience addressing issues in volatile or highly charged situations (where public safety may be at risk) using strategies to diffuse anger, mitigate conflict or address potentially hazardous circumstances.
- Experience leading a work unit, including directly or indirectly planning, developing, implementing and managing strategic or operational goals, developing and managing a budget and supervising staff.
- Preference may be given to those with demonstrated experience in administrative law and court prosecutions.

Additional Requirements:

- Valid BC Driver’s Licence. May be required to operate a variety of equipment and vehicles such as ATVs, snowmobiles, emergency vehicles and vessels, etc.
- Conduct field work which may include frequent travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay in rough camp conditions and outdoor work in all weather conditions. The position works up to 40% of the work week in the field, which includes 20% of the time in remote locations.
- Must be physically capable of carrying out the duties of the position.
- Successful completion of Special Provincial Constable requirements.
- Offer of employment is conditional upon your successful completion of the Natural Resource Officer Academy.

About this Position:
This position requires full-time, in-person work at the physical location listed.
Depending on the successful candidate’s location, a bi-weekly isolation allowance may apply.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies in the above location.
