The Workforce Employment Readiness and Connections (WERC) Whitecourt program provides hands-on training and personalized employment support to help people in Whitecourt prepare for and transition into meaningful work.
Participants can receive monthly living expenses while completing the program, along with training, work gear, transportation support, employer connections, and help finding a job.
About WERC Whitecourt
WERC Whitecourt offers flexible employment training depending on your individual needs and career goals. Training takes place in Ballad’s simulated worksite, where participants can build practical skills in one of three streams:
Construction
- Carpentry and construction fundamentals
- Hands-on shop training
- Forklift and skid steer training
- Workplace safety certifications
Oilfield Services & Piping
- Field operations and equipment skills
- Pipe basics and industrial systems
- Pipe labelling and codes
- Vehicle operation and maintenance
- Occupational health and safety protocols and certifications
Hospitality & Retail
- Front-of-house service
- Kitchen and food-service skills
- Housekeeping and laundry
- Customer service and retail operations
Participant Supports
WERC Whitecourt participants may have access to:

Ballad works with local employers to connect participants with job opportunities that align with their skills, interests, and career goals. Participants and employers also receive support during the first 365 days of employment.
Who Can Apply?
This program is open to Alberta residents who:
- Are 18 years of age or older
- Live in Whitecourt
- Are currently unemployed or underemployed
- Are legally eligible to work in Canada
- Are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
- Are ready to participate in training and work toward employment
No previous experience in construction, oil and gas, hospitality, or retail is required.
