In total, we manage more than $15 billion in plan assets, serve over 60 employers and more than 80,000 members, retirees, and survivors.
We administer the pension benefits and investment assets of the Public Service Superannuation Plan and the Teachers’ Pension Plan and administer the pension benefits of the Members’ Retiring Allowances and the three former Sydney Steel pension plans.

Our premises are within the Purdy's Wharf complex which provides amenities such as an on-site daycare and a fitness center. Our office is connected to the downtown pedway system and situated on Halifax's beautiful waterfront providing easy access to ferry and bus transit hubs, banks, restaurants, and shopping.
The prospect
Position Summary:
The Manager, Financial Services is responsible for supporting the financial operations of Nova Scotia Pension Services Corporation (NS Pension) and the pension plans it administers (Clients). As manager of the Financial Services team, the core focus of the position is full cycle accounting, ensuring adherence of policies, Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) rules, and applicable accounting standards.
What you need to be successful
- Completion of an accounting or finance bachelor’s degree, or an accounting diploma or certificate. Completion of a recognized accounting designation (e.g., CPA), with a minimum of ten years of progressive, full-cycle accounting experience. An equivalent combination of education, formal accounting training, professional designations, knowledge, and relevant work experience may be considered.
- Minimum three years of direct supervisory experience, with demonstrated leadership skills, including coaching, training, staff development, performance management, and fostering teamwork.
- Working knowledge and experience applying Canadian GAAP, ASPE and IFRS accounting standards.
- Experience with financial reporting, account reconciliations, budgeting, expense variance analysis, payroll, and CRA remittances and filings.
- Experience with computerized accounting systems (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics) and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
- Well-developed analytical, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to identify solutions and process improvements.
- Ability to plan, prioritize, and execute responsibilities with a high degree of initiative and collaboration, exercise sound judgment, manage competing priorities, and maintain confidentiality and accuracy.
