Eli’s Place Residential Treatment and Transition Centre

Canada

Eli's Place is opening Canada's first long-term residential therapeutic community for young adults living with serious mental illness, on a 600-acre working farm north of Guelph. We're building a founding team, and the Financial Controller builds the financial systems, controls and reporting a first-of-its-kind organization needs to operate responsibly from day one.

The Financial Controller is a core member of the administration team, responsible for financial integrity, compliance and accurate reporting across the organization. Working closely with the Executive Director and the Board Treasurer, you'll establish the financial infrastructure that carries Eli's Place from launch into steady-state operation, and hold full financial management responsibility from the outset.

You'll direct contracted bookkeeping and payroll, reviewing and approving their work, and manage day-to-day cash flow and accounts payable approval directly. As a founding hire, you'll help establish the budgeting process, financial controls and funder reporting systems that carry Eli's Place through launch. It's a role for someone comfortable as both a hands-on doer and an overseer in a lean team.

The role reports to the Executive Director. It's hybrid, with about two days on site each week. The schedule follows budget cycles, audit periods and funder reporting deadlines, so some additional hours around those milestones come with it.

What you'll do

- Direct contracted bookkeeping and payroll services, reviewing and approving their work for accuracy and timeliness
- Manage payroll processing, accounts payable approval and day-to-day cash flow
- Prepare financial statements and management reports for the Executive Director and Board
- Monitor budget performance, provide variance analysis and flag risks to organizational sustainability
- Lead budgeting, financial planning and audit preparation, and ensure compliance with non-profit accounting standards and CRA requirements
- Manage funder reporting across grants and funding agreements,

and help establish the financial systems and controls through pre-launch and early operations

What we're looking for

- A CPA designation, or equivalent experience in hands-on financial management
- Experience preparing financial statements and supporting audit processes
- Proficiency in accounting software and financial reporting tools
- Strong financial judgment and a compliance orientation
- Clear communication of financial information to non-financial audiences
- Sound judgment in flagging risks to organizational sustainability
- Comfortable operating as both a doer and an overseer in a lean organization
- Experience in non-profit financial management, fund accounting and grant reporting is preferred

Compensation and benefits

The salary range is $95,000 to $125,000, based on experience and qualifications. Eli's Place offers a competitive health and wellness benefits package, three weeks of vacation and a dedicated professional development fund that includes relevant CPA continuing education.

This is a small founding team building something that has never existed in Canada, on a working farm where the daily workplace is unlike anything an institutional or urban office setting can offer. For the right person, that context is as much a part of the offer as the salary.

How to apply

You can submit your resume and cover letter to [email protected]. Please read the full job profile and instructions on how to apply at https://elisplace.org/careers/.

Review of applications begins September 14, 2026 and the posting stays open until filled, so we encourage early submission. We're looking for someone who can ideally start before November 7, 2026.

Eli's Place is committed to equity, diversity and inclusion and welcomes applications from all backgrounds. In accordance with Canadian immigration requirements, priority will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents.
