Journeyperson Electrician - Halifax Shipyard
Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia
Pay: $47.00 per hour
Job Type: Full-time, project-based
Work Location: In person
Job Summary
Matrix HR is recruiting experienced Journeyperson Electricians for upcoming work at a major shipyard in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
This is an opportunity to support significant Canadian naval and commercial shipbuilding projects in a large-scale industrial environment.
Compensation and Benefits
- Day shift wage: $47.00/hour
- Shift premium: Additional $3.00/hour for second and third shifts
- Overtime opportunities may be available depending on project requirements

Key Responsibilities
As a Journeyperson Electrician, you may be responsible for:
- Reading and interpreting electrical drawings, schematics, blueprints, and specifications
- Installing and terminating marine power, lighting, communication, control, and alarm systems
- Pulling, routing, and securing electrical cables throughout vessels
- Installing cable trays, conduits, raceways, and electrical supports
- Performing cable splicing, terminations, and electrical testing
- Installing switchboards, panels, motors, transformers, sensors, and control devices
- Troubleshooting and repairing electrical and electronic systems
- Supporting testing, commissioning, and system start-up activities
- Supporting dockside and sea-trial operations as required
- Maintaining tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe and organized condition
- Following shipyard safety procedures,
confined-space requirements, and lockout/tagout practices
- Working collaboratively with welders, pipefitters, insulators, mechanical technicians, and other trades
Requirements
- Journeyperson or Red Seal Electrician certification
- Relevant industrial, marine, shipyard, offshore, heavy-industrial, or construction electrical experience
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and electrical schematics
- Experience with cable pulling, terminations, equipment installation, and troubleshooting
- Strong understanding of electrical safety standards and safe work practices
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Current Confined Space certification
- Current Fall Protection certification
- Current WHMIS certification
- Ability to obtain and maintain the required government security clearance
Experienced electrical apprentices may also be considered depending on current project requirements.
