Role: IT Project Speclialist / Implementation Specialist
Location: Sherwood Park, AB (Full-Time | On-Site / Client Sites)
Department: Project Delivery & Professional Services
Reports To: Director of IT / Operations Lead
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced, client-facing IT Project Specialist to lead the execution, deployment, and cutover of client IT infrastructure projects.
Unlike a reactive support or help desk role, this position is focused on end-to-end technical implementation. You will partner with account leadership and client stakeholders to deliver cloud migrations, physical infrastructure upgrades, network overhauls, and security modernizations on time and with minimal business disruption.
Key Responsibilities1. Project Execution & Infrastructure Deployments
- Execute end-to-end infrastructure rollouts, including physical server racking/stacking, Hyper-V/VMware cluster provisioning, and SAN/NAS storage configurations.
- Lead network cutovers: firewall replacements (Fortinet), VLAN segmentation, managed L2/L3 switching, and enterprise wireless deployments.
- Lead cloud and platform migrations, including tenant-to-tenant M365 moves, file-server-to-SharePoint migrations, and hybrid Entra ID/Active Directory transitions.
- Implement and test clean-slate Backup & Disaster Recovery (BDR) platforms (e.g., Veeam, Datto), validating bare-metal restore runbooks.
2. Client Communication & Scope Governance
- Act as the technical face of delivery during onboarding and cutover phases, leading project kickoffs, maintenance windows, and operational sign-offs.
- Translate technical roadmaps and maintenance impacts into plain, pragmatic language for non-technical business stakeholders and office managers.
- Maintain firm project boundaries—identifying scope expansion in real time and routing out-of-scope requests through the formal change-order process.
3. Vendor Coordination & Site Delivery
- Coordinate external trade partners on-site, including ISP line turn-ups, structured low-voltage cabling technicians, and line-of-business (LOB) software vendors.
- Manage off-hours and weekend cutover maintenance windows to ensure zero unplanned operational downtime for client staff.
4. Documentation & Operational Handover
- Build rigorous, standardized documentation for all newly deployed infrastructure (network topologies, asset registers, credential stores, IP schemes).
- Conduct structured post-project handoffs and knowledge transfers to ensure the Tier 1/2 Service Desk can support the recent environment seamlessly.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Experience: 3–5+ years in a project-focused delivery role within a Managed Service Provider (MSP) or high-tempo IT professional services environment.
- Core Systems: Windows Server (2016–2025), Hyper-V/VMware virtualization,
Entra ID (Azure AD), Intune (endpoint configuration and Autopilot), Microsoft 365 administration.
- Networking & Security: Practical configuration experience with enterprise firewalls (Fortinet preferred), site-to-site IPsec VPNs, VLAN routing, and zero-trust endpoint protection.
- Scripting: Baseline PowerShell proficiency for tenant administration, migration batching, and automated endpoint configuration.
- Valid Driver’s License & Clean Abstract: Required for travel to client sites across the Greater Edmonton Area / Strathcona County.
Preferred Certifications
- Infrastructure / Cloud:
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104)
- Fortinet Certified Professional (FCP) - Network Security / NSE 4
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
- Project Delivery:
- CompTIA Project+ or PMI CAPM / PMP
- ITIL 4 Foundation
Key Competencies
- Execution-Driven: Relentless attention to cutover checklists and migration rollbacks.
- Commercial Awareness: Understands billable delivery utilization, scope management, and the business impact of project delays.
- Composure Under Pressure: Calm, deliberate problem-solving during critical go-live and cutover windows.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $65,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
Benefits:
- Extended health care
- Paid time off
