Overview

We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented, and hands-on Financial Controller to oversee the organization's accounting and financial operations. This is a key leadership position responsible for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of our financial records, overseeing month-end and year-end processes, managing intercompany accounting, and providing timely financial reporting to management.

The ideal candidate will have a CPA designation or be actively pursuing their CPA, strong technical accounting experience, and a proven ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. This role requires a high level of attention to detail, advanced Excel capabilities, and strong experience with account reconciliations and financial analysis.

The successful candidate will be comfortable working directly within the accounting systems and taking ownership of day-to-day accounting operations rather than simply overseeing them. Experience managing multiple entities and complex intercompany transactions will be considered a significant asset.

Key ResponsibilitiesAccounting & Financial Operations

- Oversee all day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, cash management, and payroll
- Maintain accurate and complete accounting records for all company entities
- Manage the full month-end and year-end close process, including journal entries, accruals, adjustments, and financial statement preparation
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements and management reports
- Perform detailed account analysis and investigate discrepancies, unusual transactions, and variances
- Ensure transactions are properly coded, documented, and recorded in accordance with accounting standards and company policies
- Maintain organized and audit-ready financial records

Intercompany Accounting

- Manage and reconcile intercompany transactions across multiple entities
- Ensure intercompany balances are accurately recorded and reconciled between entities
- Investigate and resolve intercompany discrepancies in a timely manner
- Prepare and post intercompany journal entries and adjustments
- Ensure intercompany accounts are properly eliminated or presented for financial reporting purposes
- Establish and maintain processes to ensure intercompany transactions are accurately recorded on both sides of each transaction

Reconciliations & Financial Analysis

- Perform advanced account reconciliations across bank, credit card, balance sheet, intercompany, clearing, and other general ledger accounts
- Investigate and resolve variances and unreconciled balances
- Conduct detailed balance sheet reviews and account analysis




- Identify accounting errors, process gaps, and opportunities to improve financial controls
- Prepare supporting schedules and working papers for management and external accountants or auditors
- Ensure reconciliations are completed accurately and within established deadlines

Payroll

- Manage and oversee payroll processing using ADP
- Ensure payroll is processed accurately and on schedule
- Review payroll reports, deductions, remittances, and related accounting entries
- Ensure payroll-related accounts are properly reconciled
- Coordinate payroll-related year-end reporting and required filings

Accounting Systems & Excel

- Manage accounting activities through QuickBooks Online (QBO)
- Maintain the integrity and accuracy of the QBO general ledger and accounting structure
- Develop and maintain financial reporting and reconciliation processes within QBO
- Utilize advanced Microsoft Excel skills for financial analysis, reconciliations, reporting, forecasting, and data management
- Build and maintain complex spreadsheets using formulas, lookups, pivot tables, data validation, and other advanced Excel functionality
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes through automation and technology

Financial Reporting, Budgeting & Compliance

- Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
- Assist management with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning, and financial analysis
- Monitor actual results against budgets and investigate significant variances
- Provide management with meaningful financial insights and recommendations
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax requirements, and regulatory obligations
- Coordinate with external accountants, auditors, tax professionals, and other financial advisors as required
- Support annual year-end procedures, audits, and tax filings

Process Improvement & Internal Controls

- Establish and maintain effective accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Review existing accounting processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and accuracy
- Implement controls to minimize errors and ensure financial information is reliable
- Maintain appropriate documentation and approval processes for financial transactions




- Take ownership of accounting issues from identification through resolution

Qualifications & Experience

- CPA designation strongly preferred
- Candidates actively pursuing their CPA with significant relevant experience will also be considered
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with experience in a senior accounting, accounting management, or Financial Controller role
- Robust technical accounting knowledge and understanding of financial reporting principles
- Extensive experience with account reconciliations and detailed account analysis
- Proven experience managing intercompany accounting and reconciliations
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Strong experience with QuickBooks Online (QBO)
- Experience processing payroll through ADP
- Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting and month-end/year-end close processes
- Experience preparing and reviewing financial statements
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and variance analysis
- Robust understanding of Canadian accounting, payroll, and regulatory requirements
- Experience working with multiple entities or companies is an asset
- Experience in a multi-company or multi-location environment is an asset

What We're Looking For

This role is best suited for someone who is hands-on, technically strong, and comfortable taking full ownership of the accounting function. The successful candidate will not simply review work completed by others. They will be expected to understand the underlying transactions, perform detailed reconciliations, identify discrepancies, and ensure the company's financial records are accurate and complete.

The ideal candidate will bring a combination of strong accounting fundamentals, advanced Excel skills, experience with intercompany accounting, and the ability to improve and strengthen our financial processes as the organization continues to grow.

Pay: $85,000.00-$110,000.00 per year
