SANKOFF CRIMINAL LAW

Edmonton

PLEASE READ THIS AD CAREFULLY. APPLICANTS WHO DO NOT FOLLOW APPLICATION GUIDELINES WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED. ATTENTION TO DETAIL IS AN ESSENTIAL ATTRIBUTE OF THIS POSITION.

We are looking for someone exceptional.

This is not a traditional Executive Assistant position, and we are not looking for someone who simply wants to manage a calendar, answer emails, and wait for the next assignment. We are looking for someone smart, curious, highly organized and energetic who wants to become the glue that helps two growing organizations run better.

This is an unusually broad role with direct exposure to the operation and growth of two established legal and educational organizations. For the right person, it offers significant responsibility, autonomy and room to grow. We want someone who is interested not only in supporting the work, but in understanding how both organizations function and helping make them better.

The successful candidate will work closely with our CEO, Peter Sankoff. while also coordinating with the Director of Operations for Criminal Defence Essentials, and the Legal Assistant and Office Manager of Sankoff Criminal Law, while supporting work across both Sankoff Criminal Law and Criminal Defence Essentials. The role will touch virtually every part of our operations: scheduling, project management, publishing, technology, communications, administration and the development of new initiatives.

About us

Sankoff Criminal Law is a small business in Edmonton, AB that works in conjunction with Criminal Defence Essentials, an educational company. We are professional, innovative, creative, and our goal is to become Canada's leading knowledge resource legal service, and provide outstanding criminal law work.

Our work environment includes:

- Modern office setting
- Food provided
- Casual work attire
- Growth opportunities
- Regular social events
- Health and retirement perks (after 1 year)

Here's some of what you'll do:

1. Executive organization and control

Own the CEO's calendar completely.

Run a weekly dashboard covering priorities, deadlines, decisions, follow-ups, and upcoming issues.

Take control of the CEO's inbox and communications flow.

Organize all major projects into a single system.

Help finish multiple projects by tracking progress, bottlenecks, outstanding work, and next steps.

Act as a personal chief of staff by identifying what the CEO should stop doing, delegate, accelerate, or prioritize.

2. Proactive problem-solving and life improvement

Be a problem solver rather than simply identifying problems.

Anticipate needs and fill them.

Examine how the CEO works and identify ways to make his life easier, better organized,

more effective, and more enjoyable.

Create systems for recurring annoyances so the same problems do not keep happening.

Regularly identify opportunities, inefficiencies, and neglected areas that deserve attention.

3. Technology, AI, and workflow

- Fill in AI gaps and help make AI practically useful in my day-to-day work.
- Figure out how to share folders, upload documents, organize files, and create smooth document workflows.
- Troubleshoot technology problems and build simple repeatable systems around them.
- Set up/design the podcast studio, including equipment, software, layout, testing, and recording workflow.

4. Content, publishing, and media

- Take over YouTube operations: uploads, editing, thumbnails, titles, descriptions, scheduling, publishing, and channel organization.
- Capture and develop my ideas for books, articles, podcasts, talks, businesses, and other projects.
- Help move writing and publishing projects from idea to finished product.
- Coordinate media-related workflows so recording, editing, publishing, and promotion require minimal involvement from me.

5. Office Management

- Assist our office manager with purchases;
- Own travel planning end-to-end, including flights, hotels, transportation, restaurant reservations, vegan options, itineraries, and confirmations;
- Help with event planning; and
- Handle purchasing and vendor research for things I need personally or professionally.

The role, in one sentence, is essentially: run the machinery around the CEO's work, remove friction, and continually look for ways to make both better.

- Organized
- A very quick learner who enjoys mastering new tasks, systems and technology.
- Exceptionally organized, with the ability to understand both immediate priorities and what is coming weeks or months down the road.

- Genuinely curious about our businesses.
- An excellent written and verbal communicator, capable of communicating professionally on our behalf when appropriate.
- Comfortable with AI and emerging technology, or intensely interested in becoming very good at using it.

- Excited by a role that will change and expand as your capabilities grow.
