Senior Family Law Paralegal
Nicholson Family Law is a boutique family law firm located in the heart of Sunalta. We are seeking an experienced Family Law Paralegal to join our team in a full-time, permanent position. This is an office-based role with an immediate start date.
What You'll Do
· Independently manage family law files from opening through resolution, working closely with counsel to identify deadlines, next steps, and outstanding requirements
· Draft, review, and finalize pleadings, affidavits, court forms, consent orders, separation agreements, and other documents relating to divorce, parenting, support, and family property matters
· Manage filings in the Alberta Court of Justice and Court of King’s Bench, including electronic filings through Alberta’s court systems
· Prepare, review, and organize financial disclosure, financial statements, undertakings, and supporting documentation
· Coordinate scheduling and procedural matters with clients, opposing counsel, mediators, experts, and other third parties
· Maintain file diaries, court deadlines, limitation dates, and follow-up requirements with precision
· Assist counsel with preparation for applications, trials, questioning, mediation, arbitration, and settlement meetings, including compiling document briefs and organizing exhibits
· Communicate directly with clients regarding procedural and administrative matters with professionalism, patience, and empathy
· Contribute to the continued development and improvement of the firm’s precedents, systems, and procedures
Qualifications
· Ideally, 5–10 years of experience as a family law paralegal in Alberta; however, exceptional candidates with slightly less experience will be considered
· Strong working knowledge of the Family Law Act, Divorce Act, Family Property Act, Alberta Rules of Court, and applicable court procedures
· Excellent drafting, proofreading,
and written communication skills
· Exceptional attention to detail and a high degree of organization
· Ability to independently manage a demanding caseload and competing deadlines
· A proactive approach and the ability to anticipate what is required to move a file forward
· Sound judgment, professionalism, and discretion when handling sensitive and emotionally charged matters
· Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively and empathetically with clients experiencing conflict or distress
· Intermediate or greater proficiency with Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, and Excel
· Proficiency with Clio or comparable legal practice-management software
