Part time with opportunity to move into full time

Tamihi Tradeworks is looking for a capable carpenter apprentice or experienced construction worker to join our crew.

We are looking for someone around a second year apprentice skill level, or someone with equivalent practical construction experience.

You do not need to know everything, but you do need to be comfortable on a construction site and capable of getting things done without being supervised every minute.

You should be able to read a tape accurately, measure and cut material, use common power tools safely, follow instructions, think ahead, solve problems, and recognize what needs to happen next.

Our work is varied and includes residential construction, renovations, framing, decks, fences, concrete, repairs, remote projects, and unusual jobs that require practical problem solving.

This is a positive position for somebody who wants to become a well rounded carpenter and gain experience across a wide variety of construction work.

What we are looking for

- Approximately second year apprentice ability or equivalent construction experience
- Confident measuring, cutting, and completing basic layout
- Comfortable using saws, drills, impact drivers, and standard construction equipment
- Able to work independently once given a task
- Strong practical problem solving skills
- Very attentive to detail and takes pride in doing clean, accurate work
- Keeps the work area clean and organized
- Punctual, reliable, and ready to work when scheduled
- Polite and professional around clients, subcontractors, and other trades
- Able to communicate clearly and ask questions when something does not make sense
- Able to take direction and responsibility for your work

- Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in varying conditions
- Valid driver's licence and reliable transportation strongly preferred
- Your own basic carpentry hand tools are required

Compensation and opportunities

Competitive wages based on experience, skill, and demonstrated ability.

We believe capable people should be paid accordingly. Wage increases are available as your ability, independence, and responsibility increase.

A tool allowance is available toward approved trade related tool purchases.

Out of town work may include paid travel time, accommodation, meals, and mileage where applicable.

Registered apprenticeship sponsorship is available. Tamihi Tradeworks can sponsor the right candidate through SkilledTradesBC, with work based training and mentorship under a Red Seal carpenter.

We are also willing to support relevant training and certifications where they make sense for both the employee and the company.

About working with us

Tamihi Tradeworks is a small company, so everyone on the crew matters.

We are looking for someone who can think for themselves, solve problems, pay attention to details, and gradually become someone we can trust with more responsibility.

We like to have fun at work and we do not take ourselves too seriously. That said,

we work in people's homes and businesses and deal directly with clients. When we are in front of a client, we expect everyone to be punctual, polite, professional, and able to represent the company well.

You do not need to be stiff or corporate. You just need to know when it is time to joke around and when it is time to hold it together and get the job done properly.

We want somebody who takes pride in their work, cleans up after themselves, respects the client's property, and cares about the finished product.

You will get exposure to a much wider range of work than you would typically see on a production construction crew. We want to develop someone into a capable, independent carpenter who can eventually take ownership of portions of a project.

The position will initially be part time based around our current workload, with the opportunity to move into full time employment for the right person.

There is room for increased responsibility and higher wages as your skills develop and the company grows.

Physical requirements

This is hands on construction work. Applicants must be able to safely perform the physical duties of the position, including working outdoors, using ladders, working on active construction sites, and carrying construction materials.

To apply

Please send us a short introduction telling us:

- Your construction experience
- Your apprenticeship level, if applicable
- The type of work you are comfortable doing
- When you are available to start

Photos of previous work and references are welcome.

Pay: $27.00-$32.00 per hour

Expected hours: 8.0 – 40.0 per week
