Our approach is social, engaging and community-based rather than institutional. Participants spend their days learning, creating, exploring the community, building friendships and working toward personal goals—and you’ll be alongside them.

One day might involve baking together, working on a creative project or helping someone develop a practical life skill. Another could include recreation, a community outing or spending time together in a welcoming social environment.

The goal is to help each person build independence, confidence, connection and a fulfilling life.

LOCATION REQUIREMENT

This is an in-person, community-based position in Thunder Bay, Ontario. It is not a remote or work-from-home position.

Applicants must currently reside in Thunder Bay at the time they apply. Applications from outside Thunder Bay, including applicants planning to relocate, will not be considered.

POSITION AND SCHEDULE

- Initial one-year contract
- Minimum of 30 hours per week guaranteed during the first year
- Fixed programming schedule of Monday through Friday, 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Consistent availability during these core hours is required
- Remaining hours are scheduled flexibly based on participant needs, activities and employee availability
- Pay of $22.00–$25.00 per hour, based on experience
- Start date as soon as possible
- Extended health and dental benefits are not offered during the initial contract

WHAT YOU’LL DO

- Provide respectful, person-centred support.
- Participate in daily programming, recreation and creative activities.
- Support community outings and social participation.
- Help participants develop independence, confidence and practical life skills.
- Build genuine and dependable relationships with families and The The Rowan Tree Collective team.
- Adapt support to each participant’s individual goals and needs.




- Drive a Rowan Tree-provided vehicle for community activities and participant transportation.

Support needs vary by participant. Depending on the assignment, responsibilities may include personal care and other individualized assistance. Specific responsibilities will be discussed during the interview.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for someone who is dependable, patient, empathetic and adaptable. You should enjoy spending time with people, participating in activities and helping others experience greater independence and community connection.

The successful candidate will have:

- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- A respectful and person-centred approach
- Consistent availability Monday through Friday from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- A valid full Ontario G driver’s licence
- Reliable transportation to the work location
- The ability to provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check
- The ability to meet The Rowan Tree Collective’s automobile-insurance requirements

Experience supporting people with developmental disabilities or autism is an asset.

First Aid and CPR certification are assets. Candidates who do not already hold the required certification must complete the appropriate training after hiring.
