Journeyperson Service Electrician
If you are an experienced journeyperson who enjoys solving problems, working independently, and dealing professionally with customers, Crew Technical Services offers the variety and ownership that are often missing from fixed-site construction work.
We are a Calgary electrical contractor with a 14-person team, including seven field technicians. For 10 years, we have built our reputation on skilled troubleshooting, honest recommendations, clear communication, and clean workmanship. Our 4.9-star Google rating from more than 275 reviews reflects the standard our technicians deliver in the field. We are also an A+ BBB Accredited Business.
This is a service-focused role for an electrician who wants to become a trusted problem-solver not simply complete the same installation every day.
What You Will Receive
$43.00 per hour base wage
1.5× pay for hours worked between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. no exceptions
- Three-hour overtime minimum for each covered after-hours call-out
- Eligibility for a quarterly company-wide performance bonus when profitability targets are met
- RRSP matching program
- Extended health, dental, vision, life, and disability benefits after three months; Crew pays 50% of the premium, and family coverage is available
- Two weeks of vacation in the first year
- Paid on-the-job training and paid certification training days
- A fully stocked service van after successful completion of the three-month training and probation period; Crew covers fuel, maintenance, and insurance
- Company-provided iPad, uniforms, personal protective equipment, specialty tools, testing equipment, ladders, and larger power tools
- Weekly one-on-one support from the Service Manager, quarterly performance reviews, and monthly open-book company meetings
- A realistic path toward lead roles in generators, fire alarm, training, or thermography as the company expands
Your Schedule and On-Call Rotation
The normal schedule is 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, with some flexibility in start and finish times. Because this is an on-demand service and repair business, the schedule occasionally changes as customer priorities develop.
Technicians rotate through one week of on-call coverage approximately every four to six weeks. After-hours service is limited to established clients, primarily property managers and restoration contractors. It is not open to general homeowner calls. A call centre screens every request and confirms that the client accepts the after-hours fee before contacting the technician.
Once your service van is assigned,
your normal day begins at your first scheduled call and ends after your last call. You are not expected to report to the office each morning. Travel outside Calgary city limits is paid.
The Work
Our work is approximately 50% commercial service and projects, 25% restoration response, and 25% residential service and projects. We assign work with each technician’s strengths in mind and provide training for those who want to expand into another area.
Typical assignments include:
- Diagnosing and repairing electrical problems for commercial and residential clients
- Restoring exterior lighting for a property-management client
- Responding to a flood or other restoration emergency, eliminating hazards, preparing inspection documentation, and setting up temporary power
- Completing short commercial renovations in active stores, generally lasting less than two weeks
- Quoting and installing residential additions such as ceiling fans, panels, circuits, and other upgrades
- Contributing to selected residential projects, including custom homes under 3,000 square feet
- Supporting our growth in residential generators and commercial fire-alarm maintenance
You will manage service calls from initial diagnosis through completion. This includes explaining findings, presenting practical and code-compliant options, preparing smaller estimates, documenting the work in ServiceTitan, finalizing invoices, and coordinating required materials.
We expect honest advice and transparent pricing—not high-pressure sales tactics or aggressive sales targets.
What We Need From You
- A valid Alberta Journeyperson Electrician Certificate; Red Seal endorsement is preferred because occasional work may occur outside Alberta
- At least one year of experience working as a journeyperson; two or more years is preferred
- Practical experience in both residential and commercial electrical work
- Strong troubleshooting skills and a sound working knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code
- The ability to work safely and independently after the training period
- Clear, respectful communication with customers, office staff, and other trades
- A valid driver’s licence and reliable personal transportation during the initial three-month training and probation period
- The ability to provide a satisfactory criminal record check
- A professional appearance, dependable work habits, and pride in leaving every site clean
Current fall-protection and aerial-lift certificates are not required to apply. We can train the right person on estimating, ServiceTitan, field invoicing, payment collection, fire alarm, and other company processes.
Who Will Succeed Here
You will enjoy this role if you like being trusted to solve problems and make sound decisions in the field. You should be comfortable speaking with a homeowner, property manager, restoration contractor, or commercial operator and explaining the situation in plain language.
This is not a fixed-site 7:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. construction position. It is a varied service role with independent work, customer interaction, changing priorities, and occasional screened after-hours calls. In return, you will receive direct support, transparent goals, regular feedback, paid development, and the opportunity to grow with a smaller company where people know your name and strong work is noticed.
