POSITION SUMMARY

The Childcare Assistant Supervisor works directly with and supports the Childcare Spervisor in leading daily operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, and delivering high-quality early childhood education. Operating primarily on the classroom floor and in common spaces, the Assistant Supervisor acts as the operational backbone of the center—overseeing daily staff-to-child ratios, supporting educators with curriculum execution, stepping into classrooms when needed, and keeping everyday routines seamless and safe. The Assistant Supervisor focuses on classroom excellence, staff support, health and safety execution, and day-to-day parent communication.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Staff Leadership & Support

- Step in as the designated In-Charge Person during the Supervisor absence.
- Lead, mentor, and onboard educators while fostering a positive, collaborative team culture.
- Assist in planning and facilitating monthly staff meetings, workshops, and career development.
- Provide performance management, coaching, and daily leadership to classroom staff.

Pedagogical Guidance & Classroom Operations

- Support RECEs and Assistants in delivering Ontario’s "How Does Learning Happen?" framework.
- Guide staff on positive behavior management, inclusive practices, and individualized plans.
- Oversee classroom inventory, coordinating material reorders and repairs with the Manager.

Family & Community Relations

- Oversee daily parent communications on center apps (e.g., Lillio/HiMama) for quality and consistency.
- Address parent inquiries,



routine concerns, and minor incidents proactively.

Health, Safety & Compliance (OHSA)

- Enforce compliance with the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and center policies.

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

- Completion of a 2-year post-secondary diploma or bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education from a recognized college or university.
- Training or practical experience in Montessori methodologies and room setups is an asset.
- Current member in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE) as a Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE).

Experience:

- Minimum of 2 to 3 years of direct, full-time classroom experience as an RECE in a licensed childcare center.
- 2+ years of dedicated people management experience to lead, empower, and retain educators—focusing on active coaching, clear performance communication, and fostering a psychologically safe, high-performing team culture.
- Direct working experience maintaining CCEYA ratio compliance, documenting incidents, and participating in Ministry or Public Health inspections.
- Experience working across multiple age groups (Infant, Toddler, Preschool) to provide effective coverage and mentorship across all rooms is an asset.
- Hands-on experience using childcare management platforms (e.g., Lillio/HiMama) for parent messaging, attendance tracking, and daily logging is an asset.
- Exceptional ability to monitor and calculate staff-to-child ratios in real-time, swiftly reallocating staff and floaters during breaks, transitions, or sudden absences is an asset.




- Natural coaching ability to offer real-time constructive feedback, model positive interactions with children, and support RECEs and assistants.
- Strong team player who collaborates seamlessly with the Childcare Supervisor, serving as an operational bridge between management and floor staff.
