About the Chance

West Fraser is looking for full-time Millwrights based in Chetwynd, British Columbia.

Reporting to the Reliability Coordinator, you will help keep production equipment operating safely and reliably, minimize downtime and support the mill’s reliability program.

In this position, you will be primarily responsible for preventative maintenance, mechanical repairs and breakdown response across the Chetwynd facility,



including troubleshooting equipment concerns before they interrupt production.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Performing preventative maintenance and repairs on conveyors, drive systems, saws, debarkers, sorters, stackers and compressors
- Troubleshooting mechanical faults and addressing concerns before they cause equipment failure or production downtime
- Maintaining and repairing hydraulic systems, pumps, valves and cylinders
- Assembling, installing, setting up and repairing machinery using hoisting and lifting devices
- Working from man-lifts using the required fall-protection equipment
- Following established safety procedures, lockout protocols and pre-task hazard assessments
- Responding to breakdowns and returning production equipment to service safely and promptly
- Collaborating with production employees and other trades to complete maintenance work

Note: New hires begin on afternoon shift, working four 10-hour shifts from 4:00 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. on a staggered Monday-to-Thursday or Tuesday-to-Friday schedule. Flexibility is required, as shift structures may change as the operation grows. Overtime and extended hours may be required to complete maintenance work and return the mill to operation.

About You

To qualify, you will need a valid Interprovincial Red Seal or Provincial Journeyperson Millwright certification, along with strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability. Previous maintenance planning, supervisory or team leadership experience will be viewed favourably, with additional premiums available for eligible chargehand or leadership duties.

Third-year apprentices eligible and preparing to enter their fourth year, along with current fourth-year apprentices, will also be considered.

The following are required:

- Willingness to begin on afternoon shifts and adapt to changing work schedules, including possible day, night and weekend work
- Availability to work overtime or extended hours when required
- Ability to work at height from man-lifts using fall-protection equipment





The following skills and background will be highly valued:

- Maintenance experience within a sawmill, pulp mill, OSB facility or comparable industrial setting
- Experience with computerized maintenance management systems
- Knowledge of conveyors, belt and chain transfer and drive systems, saws, debarkers, sorting and stacking equipment, and compressors
- Experience maintaining hydraulic systems, pumps, valves and cylinders
- Experience operating hoisting and lifting devices during equipment assembly, installation, set-up and repair
- Valid First Aid certification (asset)

About the Benefits

Compensation based on certification level and assigned shift is $53.54–$53.95 per hour for certified Millwrights and $44.18–$45.34 per hour for fourth-year apprentices, plus a host of excellent benefits including:
