Operations Research Analyst — Two Positions

Manufacturing · Business Planning

Caivan ABIC — Ottawa, Ontario

The positions

Caivan ABIC is recruiting two Operations Research Analysts. Both are full-time, in office positions in Ottawa and both sit within the operations organization.

- Operations Research Analyst, Manufacturing. Optimization, simulation, and statistical analysis applied to the ABIC factory: production flow, supply chain, and logistics. Reports to the Assistant General Manager, Operations.
- Operations Research Analyst, Business Planning. The analytical work behind the company’s orderbook and its multi-year production profile. Reports to the Executive Vice President, Operations.

The two roles share a technical foundation and differ in scope. Applicants may apply to either stream, or ask to be considered for both.

About Caivan ABIC

Caivan ABIC is one of Canada’s largest integrated land development, manufacturing, and homebuilding organizations. Founded in 2010 and headquartered in Ottawa, the company builds across more than 50 communities in Ottawa and the Greater Toronto Area and holds a land portfolio of more than 50,000 lots. Through Advanced Building Innovation Company (ABIC), its 105,000 square foot advanced manufacturing facility, Caivan ABIC manufactures home components and fully complete home modules at a rate of five to seven homes per day per shift.

Necessary skills

Essential. A demonstrated record of building quantitative models — optimization, simulation, forecasting, or planning — that a live operation adopted and ran on, with measurable results. Coursework and prototypes alone do not meet this bar.

Essential. A bachelor’s degree in operations research, industrial engineering, applied mathematics, or another discipline in which quantitative modelling was the core of the training. A master’s degree is an asset, not a requirement.

Essential. Proficiency in Python or a comparable language, and in SQL.

Essential. The ability to explain a model’s logic, assumptions, and limitations plainly to operators, supervisors, and executives.

Strongly desirable, Manufacturing. Experience with optimization solvers (Gurobi, CPLEX, OR-Tools, or similar) and with discrete-event simulation. Exposure to lean or Toyota Production System methods.

Comfort working on a factory floor: observing lines, timing processes, and speaking with operators, not only working from data extracts.

Strongly desirable, Business Planning. Experience modelling multi-period plans under capacity constraints — master production scheduling, sales and operations planning, or portfolio-level project scheduling — and advanced Excel. The ability to present a plan and defend its logic to senior executives.

Strongly desirable, both streams. Experience in homebuilding, land development, construction, manufacturing, or another long-cycle, capital-intensive industry.

Responsibilities

Manufacturing. Model and improve production flow through the factory: line balancing, bottleneck identification, changeover and sequencing analysis, and capacity modelling across lines and shifts. Build shop floor planning models that align factory output with downstream site demand and construction schedules. Analyze and optimize supply chain performance, including inventory policy, safety stock levels, supplier lead times, and material availability against the production schedule. Model logistics from factory to site, including delivery sequencing and, for the northern modular program, shipment plans constrained by short Arctic transport windows. Run scenario and simulation analysis to support capacity and investment decisions, including factory expansion planning, and work with Caivan’s software and data teams to move proven models into production tools.

Business Planning. Maintain and improve the orderbook: the intake, sequencing, and status of sold and speculative homes against production capacity and delivery commitments. Build and maintain the production profile, the multi-year plan that links lot inventory, sales absorption, factory output, and site construction schedules into a coherent delivery schedule by community. Run scenario analysis on absorption, capacity, product mix,

and lot servicing timelines, and their effect on deliveries and revenue timing. Produce variance analysis of actuals against plan and translate the findings into concrete planning adjustments. Contribute analytical models to Caivan’s integrated planning platform, and coordinate planning inputs across land development, sales, the ABIC factory, site construction, and finance.

Why these roles

Because Caivan ABIC controls its land, its factory, and its construction, both roles work from inputs the company owns rather than terms negotiated with outside parties, and both see their models implemented and measured inside the same operation. The data is held in house, the problems are concrete, and results are visible quarter over quarter. The team includes engineers, data scientists, and mechatronics specialists, and the company is investing in the integrated planning platform both roles contribute to.

Compensation and hours

$95,000 - $120,000

44 hours per week
