The District of Sooke is seeking individuals to work as Election Officials for the upcoming General Local Election on October 17, 2026, and advance voting days October 7, 10, 13 and 14, 2026.

Election Officials will be responsible for supporting voting opportunities in accordance with the Local Government Act and related election legislation.

Previous election experience is an asset but not required.

Remuneration for a full day is $330, half-day is $165, mandatory training session is $65, and hourly rate for shorter shifts is $23.50.

Applications will be received until 4:30 p.m., on Friday, September 18, 2026

Duties Include:

- Setting up the voting place and their stations, including voting booths, posting signs and notices.
- Utilizing scanner and laptop, verifying voters names, making changes to existing registrations, registering recent voters and verifying identification.

- Explaining the voting process and issuing ballots.




- Assisting voters as required.
- Assisting with the packing of equipment and supplies and the closing of the voting place at the end of the day.

Election Officials Must:

- Be 16 years of age or older.

- Be legally entitled to work in British Columbia.

- Be responsible for their own transportation to and from their voting place.

- Attend a mandatory training session.

- Act in a non-partisan and neutral manner.

- Not be related to any candidate running for office in the municipal election.

- Not be actively working for any election campaign or any candidate.
- Follow written procedures and instructions.
- Provide courteous and professional service to the public.
- Be comfortable using a laptop with online software.
