Chief Administrative Officer (CAO)
Our client is seeking an experienced, collaborative and community-minded Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) to provide executive leadership across Nation administration and help advance the Nation’s vision for a strong, healthy, vibrant and increasingly independent community.
This is a senior leadership opportunity for an executive who can hit the ground running, build trust quickly, and balance strong operational execution with cultural awareness, compassion and community connection.
The Opportunity
The CAO reports to Chief and Council and provides leadership across a multi-department organization, working closely with directors, managers, Finance, HR and community leadership.
Key responsibilities include:
* Providing strategic and operational leadership across Nation administration.
* Working closely with Chief and Council to implement priorities and support effective governance.
* Overseeing budgets, financial performance and organizational resources.
* Empowering directors and managers while maintaining accountability and clear expectations.
* Strengthening communication and collaboration across departments.
* Advancing major capital and infrastructure projects, including the Youth Centre, water treatment, roads and sewer initiatives.
* Supporting performance management, organizational development and continuous improvement.
* Building strong relationships with Elders, youth, employees and community members.
* Ensuring community members feel heard, respected and connected to the appropriate support.
* Leading with cultural safety, emotional intelligence and an understanding of the impacts of intergenerational trauma.
What We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate is an accomplished senior leader who brings:
* Significant executive or senior management experience.
* Strong financial and organizational management skills.
* Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
* Experience leading through managers and directors.
* Strong project management and execution skills.
* The ability to manage competing priorities without losing momentum.
* Sound judgment, professionalism and strong personal integrity.
* Emotional intelligence, resilience and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
* Cultural humility and genuine respect for Indigenous communities.
* A collaborative leadership style.
* The confidence to provide candid advice while maintaining a strong, respectful relationship with Chief and Council.
Experience working within an Indigenous government or community environment is an asset. The Nation is also open to exceptional leaders who demonstrate the cultural humility, willingness to learn and relational skills necessary to succeed in this environment.
