Full-Time Accountant – Public Practice

Salary: CA$45,000–CA$55,000 per year, depending on experience

Position Overview
We are seeking a Full-Time Accountant with relevant Canadian accounting and tax experience, preferably gained in a public accounting or professional firm environment.
This is NOT an entry-level accounting position. The successful candidate must have hands-on experience preparing Canadian personal and corporate tax returns and must have working experience with both Profile and CaseWare.
As this role involves frequent direct communication with clients who primarily communicate in Mandarin or Cantonese, professional working proficiency in Mandarin and/or Cantonese is required.
As a member of a small and collaborative firm, the successful candidate should also be comfortable assisting with general administrative and office support duties from time to time when needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare Canadian personal income tax returns (T1)
- Prepare Canadian corporate income tax returns (T2)
- Prepare compilation engagement financial statements using CaseWare and Jazzit
- Perform bookkeeping and year-end accounting work using Sage 50 and/or QuickBooks Online
- Prepare and file GST, PST, and EHT returns and WorkSafeBC/WCB reports, as required
- Prepare occasional T3 trust and T5013 partnership returns (previous experience is not mandatory)
- Communicate directly with the CRA regarding client tax matters
- Communicate directly with clients by email and telephone and, when required, in person
- Obtain and follow up on accounting and tax information from clients
- Assist with payroll and related filings, as required
- Manage multiple client files and deadlines, particularly during personal tax season
- Assist colleagues and contribute to a collaborative team environment
- Assist with general administrative and office support duties from time to time, as needed in a small-firm environment
Minimum Requirements

- Relevant Canadian accounting and tax experience, preferably in a public accounting or professional firm environment
- Hands-on experience preparing T1 personal income tax returns
- Hands-on experience preparing basic T2 corporate income tax returns
- Working experience with Profile tax software
- Working experience with CaseWare
- Previous bookkeeping and year-end accounting experience using Sage 50 and/or QuickBooks Online
- Experience communicating directly with accounting or tax clients
- Professional working proficiency in Mandarin and/or Cantonese
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple client files and deadlines
- Willingness to assist with general administrative and office duties when required
- Must currently be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must be able and willing to work on-site at our Vancouver office during regular business hours
Applications without hands-on T1/T2 experience or working experience with Profile and CaseWare will not be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
The following would be considered assets:
- 2–4+ years of Canadian public practice experience
- Experience preparing compilation engagements
- Experience with T3 trust returns and T5013 partnership returns
- Experience with GST, PST, EHT, and WorkSafeBC/WCB filings
- Payroll experience
- Experience with Sage 50 and/or QuickBooks Online
- Experience with Jazzit
- Enrollment in or completion of the CPA Professional Education Program (CPA PEP)
CPA Development
A CPA designation is not required for this position. However, for employees who wish to pursue their CPA designation, the firm encourages and supports continued professional development through the CPA program.
This position provides practical exposure to a broad range of accounting, tax, and client-service work that can support ongoing professional development.
