JOB TITLE: Shop Foreman - Journeyperson HD Mechanic

LOCATION: Mount Pearl, NL

JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking an experienced Shop Foreman who holds a valid Journeyperson/Red Seal Certification in Heavy Duty Equipment Technician or Truck and Transport Mechanic. The Shop Foreman will provide leadership and technical expertise within our maintenance facility while actively participating in the repair, maintenance, and inspection of trucks and transport equipment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing daily shop operations, coordinating workflow, ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently, and maintaining high standards of quality and productivity. In addition to performing hands-on mechanical work, the Shop Foreman will play a key role in training, mentoring, and supporting apprentices and junior technicians, fostering skill development and promoting a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Lead and coordinate daily shop activities to ensure maintenance and repair work is completed efficiently, safely, and to company standards.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain a variety of trucks, trailers, and heavy-duty equipment.
- Perform inspections, preventative maintenance, and major repairs on engines, transmissions, drivetrains, hydraulic systems, suspension, brake systems, and electrical components.
- Assign work tasks and prioritize shop workload to meet operational requirements and deadlines.
- Provide technical guidance, coaching, and mentorship to apprentices and junior technicians, supporting their skills development and progression through apprenticeship levels.
- Review completed work to ensure repairs meet regulatory, manufacturer,



and company standards.
- Assist in evaluating apprentice performance and provide constructive feedback to support ongoing development.
- Support roadside service and repair activities as required.
- Ensure all maintenance records, work orders, inspections, and repair documentation are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
- Promote and enforce compliance with all company policies, safety procedures, and Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
- Assist with inventory control, parts management, and equipment maintenance planning as required.
- Collaborate with management and operations personnel to maximize equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
- Participate in a rotational on-call schedule to provide after-hours support when required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

- Journeyperson/Red Seal Certification in one of the following:

Heavy Duty Equipment Technician
Truck and Transport Mechanic

- Minimum 5 years of experience repairing and maintaining heavy-duty trucks, trailers, or related equipment.
- Previous leadership, supervisory, or mentorship experience is considered a strong asset.
- Demonstrated ability to train, coach, and support apprentices in a hands-on environment.
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities involving mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic systems.




- Thorough knowledge of provincial and federal vehicle safety regulations and industry best practices.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driver's abstract.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to workplace safety and established maintenance procedures.
- Experience using maintenance management systems, Mitchell 1, Protractor, or similar software is considered an asset.
- Ability to work independently while fostering a collaborative and productive team environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and commitment to quality workmanship.
