Wounds Canada, a charitable organization devoted to improving the lives of Canadians at risk for or with wounds, is currently seeking an outstanding individual eager to join our team on a contract basis as Editorial Assistant/Assistant Editor. Working under the direction of the Editor, Major Publications, the Editorial Assistant/Assistant Editor will support the publication of the organization’s major publications: Wound Care Canada, Limb Preservation Journal. Wound Care Canada is published twice per year and Limb Preservation Journal once per year.

Key Responsibilities

· Overall Journal Publishing: Manage journal pipelines by ensuring timely processing and publication of content in-line with the publishing schedule

· Identifying and Soliciting Articles: Use research skills and health-related knowledge to assist in identifying and commissioning publication content in co-ordination with the Editor

· Author and Editor Communication: Liaise with writers about their submissions and guide them through required revisions

· Peer-Review Management: Track manuscript submissions, find and liaise with qualified peer reviewers as required and monitor review timelines

· Content Editing: Editing articles along with opinion pieces and review content for a range of scientific and medical disciplines

· Copyediting and Proofreading: Check articles for correct terminology, clear grammar and adherence to the publication’s specific style guide

· Review Formatting of References: Ensure all author(s)’ references are provided in Vancouver Style. Check references as required. Communicate with authors as needed





· Quality Control: Screen initial submissions to verify they meet basic formatting, ethical and quality standards before sending them out for peer review and/or beginning editing process

· Art and Production Co-ordination: Work with sales and graphics team regarding submission of advertisements, copy, enforcing timelines and checking proofs, as well as co-ordinating uploading of the journal to the website

· DOI (Digital Object Identifier) Management: Manage securing DOI’s for all articles and tracking and updating DOI links

· Policies and Procedures: Collaborating with colleagues to improve internal policies and processes

· Administrative Support: Maintain journal databases, handle licensing and copyright forms and format checks for incoming submissions

· Content and Workflow Support: Co-ordinate with other Wound Canada teams to exchange ideas, enhance collaborations, curate social media or website updates as required.

Qualifications and Requirements

- Have a degree in biological or related science or equivalent, or demonstrate corresponding experience or knowledge
- Demonstrate editorial experience in a science, technology or medical publishing environment
- Have excellent spelling,



grammar and clarity in written English. French language skills are an asset.
- Demonstrate strong attention to detail and good organizational abilities
- Enjoy collaborating with teams to meet deadlines and enhance the publication
- Be able to communicate and negotiate constructively with colleagues and members of the wound care community, which includes health-care providers, researchers, patients, policy makers, administrators and more
- Have good IT skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel), Adobe Acrobat, Zoom, Google Workspace, social media and website editing software.
- Have a passion for health-related publishing

The Editorial Assistant/Assistant Editor will work to publish three issues per year by the established deadlines and will be compensated on a per issue basis. The Editorial Assistant/Assistant Editor will work as an independent contractor and will be required to provide their own equipment and have access to basic tools such as Microsoft Suite to complete required job duties.
