Senior Accountant – Public Accounting
Are you an experienced accountant who enjoys working directly with clients, solving problems, and being involved in more than just one area of accounting? Join our team at a growing public accounting firm located in the heart of Wetaskiwin.
We are seeking a motivated Senior Accountant who is ready to take ownership of client files, work closely with our team and partners, and provide practical accounting and tax advice to individuals and owner-managed businesses.

As a smaller firm, we offer the opportunity to work on a wide variety of files and be involved in all aspects of our clients' accounting and tax needs. You'll work directly with clients, junior staff, and partners in a supportive environment where your experience, ideas, and contributions are valued.
As a Senior Accountant, your responsibilities will include:
Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Preparing and reviewing year-end working paper files and financial statements for owner-managed businesses
- Preparing compilation engagements in accordance with applicable professional standards
- Reviewing general ledgers and identifying required adjusting entries
- Reviewing bookkeeping and accounting records for accuracy and completeness
- Identifying accounting issues and working with clients and partners to resolve them
- Managing multiple client files and ensuring engagements are completed accurately and efficiently
- Assisting clients with accounting systems, processes, and bookkeeping questions
Taxation
- Preparing and reviewing corporate income tax returns
- Preparing and reviewing personal income tax returns
- Preparing other tax filings and information returns as required
- Identifying tax planning opportunities and discussing recommendations with partners and clients
- Assisting with CRA correspondence, reviews,
and client inquiries
- Staying current with changes to Canadian tax legislation and accounting standards
- Recognizing issues that require additional research or partner involvement
Client Relations & Advisory
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients
- Communicating directly with clients to obtain information, answer questions, and discuss accounting and tax matters
- Taking the time to understand each client's business and overall financial situation
- Providing practical advice and solutions tailored to the needs of owner-managed businesses
- Identifying opportunities where the firm can provide additional value or services
- Communicating complex accounting and tax matters in a way clients can easily understand
- Providing exceptional client service and timely follow-up
Team Leadership & Development
- Reviewing work completed by junior accountants and providing constructive feedback
- Mentoring and assisting junior team members with technical questions and file preparation
- Sharing knowledge and contributing to the development of the accounting team
- Working collaboratively with partners and other team members to manage workflow and deadlines
- Participating in the development and improvement of internal systems and processes
- Taking ownership of assigned files from initial planning through completion
Think you've got what it takes to be a Senior Accountant? Here are a few more boxes we're hoping you can tick:
- 3+ years of public accounting experience
- CPA designation or significant progress toward obtaining a CPA designation preferred
- Experience preparing corporate and personal income tax returns
- Experience preparing compilation engagements and year-end working paper files
- Strong understanding of Canadian accounting and taxation principles
- Experience working with owner-managed businesses, farms, and individual clients is an asset
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple files, priorities, and deadlines
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate work
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable communicating directly with clients
- Ability to work independently while knowing when to ask questions or involve a partner
- Willingness to mentor and support junior team members
- Takes initiative, accepts responsibility, and follows files through to completion
- Demonstrates sound judgment when dealing with confidential and sensitive matters
- Comfortable working in a collaborative, small-firm environment where everyone pitches in
- Experience with CaseWare, TaxPrep, QuickBooks, Sage, or similar accounting and tax software is an asset
- Available to work additional hours during peak tax filing periods, particularly February through June

Pay: $40,000.00-$65,000.00 per year
