Reports to: General Manager / Operations Leadership
Job Status: Part-Time Independent Contractor / Consultant (Approximately 10 Hours per Week)
Location: Portfolio-Wide / Remote with Onsite Visits as Required
Compensation: $60–$65 per hour
Start Date: As soon as possible

Your Day-to-Day

National Culinary Strategy & Leadership:

- Develop and implement a national culinary strategy aligned with Prima Living’s vision, values, and business objectives
- Establish annual culinary priorities, initiatives, and measurable performance goals across the portfolio
- Provide strategic direction to Culinary Managers, Chefs, Food Service Managers, and community leadership teams
- Identify opportunities to elevate culinary standards and create consistency across communities
- Stay informed of emerging culinary trends, hospitality practices, and resident dining preferences

Culinary Excellence & Resident Dining:

- Partner with Culinary Managers to develop and continuously improve standardized menus, recipes, and dining programs
- Establish consistent food service standards focused on quality, presentation, nutrition, resident choice, and operational efficiency
- Enhance the resident dining experience through innovation, creativity, and hospitality-focused service
- Promote resident-centred dining practices that reflect the preferences and needs of older adults
- Support communities in creating an exceptional and consistent dining experience

Operational Performance & Cost Management:

- Evaluate culinary operations across communities and identify opportunities for improvement
- Support optimization of food costs, labour efficiency, inventory management, purchasing, and vendor relationships
- Review culinary KPIs, resident satisfaction metrics, budgets, and operational performance
- Recommend strategies to improve food quality, consistency, productivity, and financial performance




- Collaborate with Operations and Health & Wellness teams to identify opportunities for enhanced dining services and appropriate care revenue initiatives

Leadership, Coaching & Mentorship:

- Coach and mentor Culinary Managers, Chefs, Food Service Managers, and kitchen leadership teams
- Build leadership capability and promote accountability, innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning
- Identify high-potential culinary leaders and support succession planning
- Share best practices across the portfolio
- Provide guidance and support to leaders managing operational or performance challenges

Quality, Compliance & Food Safety:

- Promote compliance with applicable food safety, sanitation, health, and regulatory requirements
- Support communities in preparation for audits, inspections, and quality improvement initiatives
- Review and recommend standardized culinary policies, procedures, recipes, and quality assurance tools
- Identify operational risks and recommend corrective actions
- Monitor culinary performance and recommend continuous improvement strategies

Measurement & Continuous Improvement:

- Establish and monitor culinary performance indicators across the portfolio
- Evaluate resident feedback and dining satisfaction to identify improvement opportunities
- Review operational and financial data to support informed decision-making
- Provide regular recommendations and updates to Operations leadership
- Lead or support strategic culinary projects and portfolio-wide initiatives

What You Bring to the Table:

- Minimum 10 years of progressive culinary leadership experience in retirement living, seniors housing, healthcare, hospitality,



or multi-site food service
- Demonstrated experience leading culinary strategy across multiple locations
- Extensive knowledge of menu development, food production, food safety, nutrition, purchasing, inventory management, and cost control
- Strong understanding of resident-centred dining and hospitality best practices
- Proven experience coaching and developing culinary leaders
- Demonstrated ability to improve operational performance and financial results
- Strong understanding of food safety legislation, sanitation standards, and regulatory requirements
- Experience working with budgets, KPIs, labour productivity, food costs, and vendor management
- Robust strategic planning, analytical, project management, and change management skills
- Exceptional communication and relationship-building abilities

Nice to Have:

- Experience in retirement living or seniors housing
- Multi-site or national culinary leadership experience
- Experience developing standardized menus, recipes, and culinary programs
- Experience with private-pay retirement living models
- Formal culinary education or professional culinary designation
- Experience leading culinary transformation or operational improvement initiatives
