Job Description
Insight Global is looking to bring on a Senior Naval Architect to provide engineering support for the analysis, assessment, and repair of submarine steel structures and hull systems within a waterfront engineering environment. This role is well suited to a naval architect with significant marine project experience and a robust background in structural surveying, ship repair, and refit activities. Unlike new-build projects, submarine refit work often involves existing and degraded structures, incomplete information, and conditions that require sound engineering judgment and the ability to interpret complex or uncertain situations.
The successful candidate will develop practical, technically sound repair solutions while working closely with engineering, production, quality, project management, customers, and contractors.
Key Responsibilities
Perform engineering assessments of existing submarine structures, reviewing structural and paint surveys, NDT reports, inspection findings, and technical queries to determine appropriate repair solutions and provide technical recommendations.
Develop and oversee structural repair specifications, including engineering calculations, technical drawings, repair methodologies, deviations, waivers, and technical documentation for submarine maintenance and refit periods.
Apply naval architectural principles and engineering judgment to assess degraded, damaged, or modified structures, developing practical solutions where conditions differ from original design assumptions or available documentation.
Generate and review structural work packages and contract documentation, and provide engineering direction and support during fabrication, installation, build-up, testing, and commissioning of submarine structural systems.
