Masset

Masset is situated along the shoreline of Masset Sound on Haida Gwaii, formerly known as the Queen Charlotte Islands, and is the largest village on the island. Major industries are logging, fishing and tourism. Masset provides services for a larger rural area with a population of 1,000 local residents and services a surrounding area of 2,300 including Tow Hill (unincorporated) and Old Masset (IR). Incorporated in 1961, the Village of Masset (pop. 1,000) is the oldest of the islands municipalities. Masset is seeking family practice locum coverage in the clinic, dates can be customized to suit your availability, and will be compensated through Locums of Rural BC.

In addition, emergency shifts are available if you would like to add to your locum. ER +1 is not required.

Locums are met by clinic staff on day of arrival and provided with an orientation and introduction to the community. They are given a quick tour of town and shown where the clinic and hospital are located. They are then escorted to the locum accommodation.

Regular office hours are Mon-Fri 9 am to 4:30 pm closed 12 pm to 1 pm for lunch, closed all statutory holidays. Appointments are booked at 20-minute intervals.

For a typical 5-day assignment, you can expect a combination of in-clinic pre-booked patients during shifts from 9 am to 4:30 pm, with the option to add ER on-call shifts. On-call emergency department shifts are all 24 hours, 8 am to 8 am and weekend coverage begins Saturday morning through to Monday morning.

EMR: MOIS. Training is provided on the first day by IT. Friendly support staff are available during clinic hours for any questions that may arise.

Rentals are fully funded, fully furnished and for most, have views of Masset Sound on the Pacific Ocean and within walking distance to the hospital and local beaches.

Northern Haida Gwaii Hospital and Health Centre provides medical service to Old Masset, Port Clements and surrounding areas. The hospital and health centre has 4 Acute Care beds, 1 Palliative Care bed, 4 Long-term Care beds and a 4 unit assisted living complex. Some services provided at the hospital:
