Job Overview

Lowdown Landworks is a small, locally owned and operated excavation, landscaping, and land improvement business. We’re looking for a reliable, hardworking General Labourer to join us on a casual/part-time basis and provide an extra set of hands when needed on jobs.

This is a hands-on, physically demanding position involving outdoor work on a variety of projects, including excavation, landscaping, fencing, site preparation, property cleanup, drainage, and general land improvement.

Because we are a small business, we’re looking for someone who is comfortable jumping in wherever needed. You should be physically capable, dependable, able to follow direction, show initiative, and come to work with a professional attitude.

Previous construction, landscaping, excavation, skid steer, farming, fencing, or general labour experience is an asset, but we are also happy to consider someone with less experience who is motivated, hardworking, and genuinely wants to learn.

Responsibilities

Duties will vary depending on the project and may include:

- Assisting with excavation, landscaping, fencing, drainage, site preparation, and property cleanup
- Assisting with fence installation, including lifting, carrying, positioning, and holding large/heavy fence posts in place
- Loading, unloading, carrying, and moving materials, tools, and equipment
- Shovelling, digging, raking, lifting, hauling, and other physical labour
- Preparing and cleaning up job sites
- Helping move and organize materials around work sites




- Assisting the equipment operator and providing ground support when required
- Safely using basic hand and power tools
- Keeping tools, equipment, and work areas clean and organized
- Following instructions and workplace safety procedures
- Pitching in wherever needed to keep jobs moving safely and efficiently

Ideal Candidate

We’re looking for someone who:

- Is physically strong and capable of demanding manual labour, including lifting and stabilizing heavy or awkward materials
- Is comfortable lifting, carrying, bending, digging, kneeling, and being on their feet throughout the workday
- Is reliable, punctual, and shows up when they say they will
- Arrives with a professional, respectful attitude and ready to work
- Comes prepared in appropriate outdoor work attire and footwear suitable for the job and weather conditions
- Has good communication skills and can follow instructions
- Can work safely and attentively around excavation equipment and machinery
- Has a strong work ethic and isn't afraid to get dirty
- Shows initiative and can recognize when something needs to be done without always needing to be asked
- Works well as part of a small team
- Is trustworthy, respectful, and easy to work with
- Is comfortable working outdoors in varying weather and site conditions
- Is willing to learn new skills and take direction
- Has a valid driver's licence and reliable vehicle/transportation to get to job sites
- Access to a truck is an asset,



but is not required

Previous experience in construction, excavation, landscaping, fencing, farming, property maintenance, or another physically demanding job is an asset, but not required for the right person.

About the Position

This is not a guaranteed full-time position. We are looking for someone who can provide casual and flexible help depending on our workload and booked projects.

Hours and days may vary from week to week. This could be a great fit for someone looking for additional work, flexible hours, or an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in excavation and landworks.

As our business and workload continue to grow, there may be opportunities for additional hours and responsibility for the right person.

Reliable transportation is required, as job sites will vary and employees will need to be able to get themselves to the designated work location. (Generally within the Cowichan Valley)
