About the Position
A well-established and growing oilfield transportation company located north of Fort Saskatchewan is seeking an experienced Accountant to join our team.
The Accountant will manage the day-to-day accounting requirements of our transportation operation while providing accounting support to our sister companies in the heavy-duty mechanical areas. This position requires a highly organized and dependable professional who can work across multiple companies, prepare accurate financial and management reports, assist with cost control, analyze payables, and ensure all reporting requirements are completed within established timelines.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage daily accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, banking, and general ledger entries.
- Provide accounting and financial reporting support across multiple related companies.
- Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial and management reports.
- Create reports that provide management with clear information regarding revenue, expenses, profitability, cash flow, and operational performance.
- Maintain reporting schedules and ensure all internal and external reporting deadlines are met.
- Follow up with the appropriate departments to obtain the information required to complete reports accurately and on time.
- Assist management with cost control and cost-management initiatives across all business divisions.
- Analyze accounts payable activity, supplier spending, recurring costs, and payment trends.
- Review supplier invoices, purchase orders, approvals, account coding, pricing, and supporting documentation for accuracy and completeness.
- Identify duplicate charges, billing discrepancies, unusual expenses, price increases, and potential cost-saving opportunities.
- Compare supplier costs and spending patterns and provide management with recommendations where appropriate.
- Ensure invoices are properly approved, coded, entered, and scheduled for payment.
- Complete bank, credit card, general ledger, and balance-sheet account reconciliations.
- Monitor customer accounts, outstanding receivables, and collection activities.
- Process and reconcile customer receipts and supplier payments.
- Assist with payroll processing, employee deductions, benefits, and payroll reconciliations.
- Prepare and submit GST, payroll remittances, and other required government filings within established deadlines.
- Maintain accurate records for equipment, fixed assets, leases, loans, and insurance.
- Track and analyze fuel, payroll, parts, repairs, maintenance, equipment, and other operating costs.
- Assist management with budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow planning, and financial analysis.
- Complete month-end and year-end closing procedures according to established timelines.
- Assist with job costing, divisional reporting, and comparisons between actual and budgeted performance.
- Work with external accountants, auditors, financial institutions, and government agencies as required.
- Identify accounting discrepancies, investigate financial variances, and ensure necessary corrections are completed.
- Develop and improve accounting procedures, reporting processes, and internal financial controls.
- Maintain complete, organized, and confidential financial records.
- Perform additional accounting and administrative responsibilities as required.
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- CPA designation or current enrollment in the CPA program is considered an asset.
- Minimum of three years of accounting or senior bookkeeping experience.
- Experience preparing financial statements, management reports, budgets, and cash-flow projections.
- Experience with cost analysis, cost control, supplier-spend analysis, and accounts payable management.
- Experience managing accounting requirements for multiple companies, divisions, or cost centres is preferred.
- Experience in transportation, oilfield services, heavy-duty mechanical repair, commercial tires, or a related industry is considered an asset.
- Robust knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger accounting, and account reconciliations.
- Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to recognize and investigate discrepancies.
- Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and consistently meet reporting deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- High level of accuracy, professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality.

Pay: $60,000.00-$95,000.00 per year
