Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to support full-cycle accounting, project financial management, and inventory oversight within a fast-paced and collaborative setting. This role will oversee the day-to-day accounting operations for one of our group’s companies, with some intercompany transactions with our other companies. You will report to management on the financial position of the company by maintaining the financial reporting and keeping a close eye on the cash position of the company. This role combines traditional accounting responsibilities with project accounting requiring strong analytical skills, exceptional organization, and the ability to work closely with cross-functional teams. Must be highly comfortable using Microsoft Excel, including formulas, data organization and spreadsheets used in daily accounting tasks. Must also have experience with accounting software and implementing processes where required to make improvements.

Key Responsibilities

Full-Cycle Accounting

Manage full-cycle accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger maintenance, payroll, intercompany reconciliations, and month/year-end closes.

- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Manage accounting team to ensure day-to-day accounting operations are running effectively and efficiently.
- Communication with CFO, financial controller and ownership on financial results to aid in decision making.
- Follow up with customers on delinquent payments where required.
- Prepare and execute payments to subcontractors and vendors.
- Conduct financial,



variance, and forecasting analyses to support decision-making and strategic planning. Experience with cash forecasting is a key responsibility of this role.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal policies, and regulatory requirements, including provincial sales tax reporting (GST/HST/PST) and bank compliance reporting.
- Review and analyze financial data to identify trends, anomalies, risks, and improvement opportunities.
- Assist in developing and implementing accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Assist in implementing new accounting software and/or ERP systems as required.
- Review the payroll process on a bi-weekly basis.
- Participate in the yearly budgeting and forecasting process, providing insights and recommendations.
- Stay current on accounting standards, industry best practices, and emerging trends.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Project Accounting

- Set up, maintain, and close projects in the accounting system in accordance with company policies and project requirements.
- Process project costs against subcontracts and purchase orders.
- Support billing for projects with complex commercial terms and prepare monthly billing packages for project managers.
- Prepare customer invoices with all required backup documentation and ensure timely submission.
- Monitor and reconcile project financials, including budgets, change orders, expenses, commitments, subcontractor invoices, and material costs.




- Produce and analyze trend, variance, and performance reports as required.
- Support project managers in finalizing WIP & accrual reports.
- Identify opportunities to improve project gross margins and ensure accurate cost recovery while minimizing non-billable expenses.
- Communicate with customers to ensure invoices are received, approved, and processed.
- Reconcile project accounts and manage project financial close-out activities.
- Collaborate with the Finance team on ad hoc tasks as required.

Qualifications

- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred).
- CPA designation is not required but is an asset.
- Minimum 5+ years of accounting experience, or equivalent. Preference given to those that have management experience.
- Experience in construction, manufacturing, or related industries is an asset.
- Strong understanding of financial reporting, financial controls, full-cycle accounting, and project financial processes.
- Proven analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service abilities.
- Strong organization, prioritization, and time-management skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (advanced Excel skills required)
- Experience with QuickBooks or equivalent accounting software is an asset.

Pay: $80,000.00-$90,000.00 per year
