About Lumen Landscaping
Lumen Landscaping is a hardscape and landscape construction company based on the Hamilton Mountain. We build interlock driveways and patios, segmental retaining walls, decks, garden beds, sod, and full plant installations for residential clients across Hamilton, Stoney Creek, Ancaster, Dundas, and Burlington. Our crews are small, the work is hands on, and the quality of the finished product is what keeps our referrals coming.
The Role
We are hiring a Foreman to run jobs from layout through final cleanup. You are the person on site who owns the build: setting grades and elevations, directing the crew, keeping the schedule tight, and making sure the finished product is something the client is glad they paid for. This is a leadership role for someone who still likes being on the tools.
The balance of this season, roughly the next two months, will be spent training and learning how we build. Work then pauses for the winter and picks back up at the end of March or the beginning of April, when you step into the foreman position full time.
What You Will Be Doing
- Interpret site plans, grading plans, and material lists before work begins
- Set out layout, string lines, elevations, and finished grades
- Run and supervise excavation, base preparation, compaction, and screeding
- Install interlock, natural stone, segmental retaining walls, steps, and edge restraint
- Build decks, garden beds, and complete sod and plant installations
- Operate a mini skid steer, plate compactor,
saws, and related equipment safely
- Coordinate concrete subcontractors and material deliveries so the crew is never standing around
- Handle daily material take offs and call in orders as needed
- Direct a small crew, keep everyone productive, and train less experienced hands
- Maintain a clean, organized, safe site and enforce PPE and secure work procedures
- Report to the owner daily on progress, site conditions, and any changes
- Represent the company professionally in front of homeowners
What We Are Looking For
- Minimum one year in hardscape or landscape construction
- Leadership qualities, someone who can take charge of a site and keep a crew moving
- Eager and ambitious, with the drive to grow into running your own jobs
- Working knowledge of base preparation, drainage, compaction, and correct installation of interlock and segmental retaining walls
- Comfortable operating a mini skid steer and compaction equipment
- Valid G licence with a clean driving record, and confident towing a loaded trailer
- Able to lift heavy materials repeatedly and work outdoors in all weather
- Reliable, punctual, and able to run a full day without being managed
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
Considered an Asset
- ICPI or manufacturer installer training (Unilock, Techo Bloc, Permacon)
- Carpentry experience, including decking or fencing
- Low voltage lighting or irrigation experience
- Standard First Aid and CPR certification
- Ability to diagnose and handle basic small equipment repairs
- Basic comfort with a phone or tablet for photos, measurements, and messaging
Compensation and Schedule
- $30 to $36 per hour, based on experience
- End of season bonus
- Full time, approximately 40 to 60 hours per week
- Based on typical hours, a foreman can expect to earn approximately $50,000 to $60,000 over the eight month season, plus the end of season bonus
- Eight month season running from the end of March or beginning of April through the end of November. No work from December through March.
- Monday to Friday with occasional Saturdays and Sundays, start time between 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM
- Training through the balance of this season, approximately two months, then a full time return in the spring
