Job Overview

Experienced Residential Renovation Worker

$25–$40/hour | Full-Time Contract Position | Durham Region

Multi-Trade Building Services is looking for an experienced residential renovation professional to join our team on a full time contract basis while one of our current team members is on leave.

This isn't an entry-level position. We're looking for someone with substantial hands-on experience in residential renovations who can step onto a jobsite, understand what needs to be done and contribute from the start.

The position is initially contract, but there may be an opportunity for permanent employment for the right person.

What we're looking for

We're looking for someone with a minimum of 10 years of hands-on residential renovation experience.

Residential experience is important. Working in an occupied client's home is very different from working on a new construction or commercial site. Our clients trust us with their homes, and we expect every member of our team to treat those homes with care and respect.

You do NOT need to be an expert in every area listed below. In fact, we don't expect anyone to be great at everything.

We're interested in hearing from experienced renovators with skills in several of the following areas:

- Residential demolition
- Framing and basic carpentry
- Drywall installation
- Drywall repairs and patching
- Interior and exterior trim
- Baseboard, casing and finish carpentry
- Door installation
- Cabinet and vanity installation
- Flooring installation, including laminate and luxury vinyl plank
- Ceramic and porcelain tile installation
- Backsplash installation
- Painting and surface preparation
- Caulking and finishing
- Minor exterior renovation and repair work
- General kitchen renovations
- General bathroom renovations
- Other residential repair and renovation work

Tell us what you're good at. We'd much rather have someone who is genuinely skilled in several areas than someone who claims to be an expert at everything.

Compensation

$25–$40 per hour, based on demonstrated experience and skill level.

Compensation within this range will reflect the type of work you're able to perform, your level of independence, the quality of your workmanship and the range of renovation skills you bring to our team.

We recognize and are willing to pay for genuine skill and experience.

At the same time, compensation is based on demonstrated ability on the jobsite, not simply years listed on a résumé. We'll be able to assess your skills early in the position, and your compensation will reflect what you're actually capable of doing safely, efficiently and to a professional standard.

Your own vehicle is REQUIRED

You must have a valid driver's licence, your own reliable vehicle and be able to travel independently to jobsites throughout Durham Region.

This requirement is non-negotiable.

Our employees work at different residential jobsites depending on our schedule. You must be able to get yourself to and from the assigned jobsite without relying on another employee, family member or other person for transportation.

Please do not apply if you do not have your own reliable transportation.

Tools

You must have your own basic hand tools appropriate to your trade and skill level.

You are not expected to supply an entire workshop. Multi-Trade Building Services has company tools and equipment available, including power tools and specialty equipment required for our projects.

We simply expect an experienced renovation professional to arrive with the basic personal hand tools they would normally use to perform their work.

The person we're looking for

Skill matters for this position—but so does the person bringing those skills into our clients' homes.

We're looking for someone who:

- Takes pride in their workmanship
- Works efficiently without sacrificing quality
- Can work independently when appropriate
- Can also work cooperatively as part of a team
- Takes direction and follows project instructions
- Communicates when something is unclear rather than making assumptions
- Treats clients, co-workers and their property respectfully
- Keeps their work area reasonably clean and organized
- Understands the importance of protecting finished surfaces in an occupied home
- Is dependable and shows up when expected
- Conducts themselves professionally around clients

About the position

This is a full-time contract position created to provide additional coverage while one of our current employees is on leave.

The position may end when that coverage is no longer required. However, we're a busy residential renovation company, and there is potential for this position to become permanent for the right person if our workload and the fit with our team support it.

All of our work is located throughout Durham Region.

Applying

When applying, please tell us about your residential renovation experience and, specifically, what you can do well and independently.

We're particularly interested in knowing which types of renovation work you consider your strongest skills.

If you have photos or a portfolio showing examples of your previous residential renovation work, we'd be happy to see them.

Please apply only if you have at least 10 years of residential renovation experience and your own reliable vehicle.

Pay: $25.00-$39.57 per hour

Expected hours: 30.0 – 40.0 per week

Experience:

- residential renovation: 10 years (preferred)

Language:

- English (required)

Work Location: In person
