POSITION SUMMARY

The Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) is responsible for the overall care, well-being, and holistic development of infants, toddlers, or preschool-aged children. Operating as a primary educator in the classroom, the RECE designs, implements, and evaluates inclusive, play-based early learning programs anchored in Ontario’s "How Does Learning Happen?" pedagogical framework and ELECT principles.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Pedagogical Planning & Curriculum Execution

- Develop and implement child-care programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of children, aligned with Ontario’s "How Does Learning Happen?" framework.
- Encourage children to express creativity through the media of art, dramatic play, music, and physical activity to stimulate holistic growth.
- Engage children in activities by telling stories, teaching songs, preparing crafts, and guiding interactive group play.
- Design accessible learning spaces and adapt activities to accommodate children with diverse abilities, backgrounds, and learning styles.

Child Well-Being, Health & Safety

- Plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, security, and well-being of children in compliance with CCEYA and Public Health standards.
- Maintain continuous visual and auditory supervision of children indoors and outdoors, ensuring staff-to-child ratios are strictly maintained at all times.
- Assist children in developing healthy habits, including personal hygiene, mealtime routines, diapering/toilet training, and rest periods.

Developmental Assessment & Parent Communication

- Assess the abilities, interests, and needs of children and discuss progress or problems with parents, guardians, and other staff members.
- Observe children for signs of potential learning, developmental, or behavioral needs, preparing pedagogical documentation and progress reports.





Collaboration & Professional Teamwork

- Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers, management, families, and external community service providers.
- Guide and mentor Early Childhood Educator Assistants (ECAs), supply educators, and placement students working within the classroom.
- Participate in staff meetings, center events, and ongoing professional development required by the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE).

Health and Safety

- Work in strict compliance with the provisions of the OHSA, its regulations, and all internal workplace health and safety policies.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE

- Completion of a 2-year diploma or bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from an accredited college or university.
- Active participation in the College’s Continuous Professional Learning (CPL) program requirements.
- Specialized training in early intervention, inclusive education, or supporting children with exceptionalities is an asset.
- Minimum of 1 year of direct classroom experience working with infants, toddlers, or preschool-aged children in a licensed childcare center or educational setting (including student placement hours).
- Proven experience planning and delivering play-based, inquiry-driven curriculum.
- Direct experience maintaining CCEYA staff-to-child ratios, active indoor/outdoor supervision, and daily health checks.
- Experience utilizing digital childcare communication tools (e.g., Lillio/HiMama) for daily parent logging and pedagogical story posts.
- Deep understanding of Ontario’s official early learning framework, "How Does Learning Happen?"
- Strong working knowledge of the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA), including room ratios, group sizes, prohibited practices, serious occurrence protocols, and outdoor supervision rules.
- Thorough understanding of physical, social, emotional,



and cognitive developmental milestones for children aged 0 to 6 years.
- Ability to design creative, child-centered activities integrating art, music, dramatic play, sensory exploration, and physical movement.
- Skilled in observing children, capturing meaningful learning moments, and preparing visual pedagogical stories for families.
- Ability to use positive guidance techniques to teach self-regulation, empathy, and conflict resolution skills to young children.
