Position Summary

The incumbent will provide Sandy Bay Child & Family Services Inc. with cultural programming to ensure the well-being of youth and their families in the community. The incumbent will work as a liaison between Sandy Bay Child and Family Services Inc. and the community resources, to arrive at cultural program cooperation and/ or cultural program development.

Some Duties include

- Maintains monthly cultural planning calendar of scheduled activities, contact with assigned youth with Cultural Services Supervisor’s assistance.
- Will ensure cultural programs are carried out as per Cultural - Prevention team’s goals and objectives along with traditional teachings as taught by community Elders.
- Organizes, facilitates and coordinates cultural community functions, including but not limited to smudges, sharing circles, drum groups, sweats, prayers opening prayers, counselling, and ceremonies are carried out.
- Maintains accurate documentation of community meetings, workshops, programs, etc.
- Book venues, coordinate activities, refreshments in conjunction of monthly cultural/ prevention calendar.
- May assist in planning internal Agency functions, activities, and events.
- Must have strong computer skills, solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office, and office equipment.
- Must be able to work within a set budget (monthly cultural calendar activities).




- Conducts cultural needs assessment by meeting with staff, community resources, elders, community members and committees.
- Evaluates assessment process to ensure that it is effective in identifying cultural needs and meet community expectations.
- Assist the youth and parents to utilize existing community resources.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
- Must have a Child and Family Services Diploma or Indigenous Studies Diploma or equivalent from a recognized Post-Secondary Institution.
- Must have a minimum Grade 12 Diploma from a recognized Educational Institution.
- Minimum of 2 years of direct work experience working with Indigenous communities on cultural programs and services.
- Must have a valid Manitoba Drivers Licence, access to a vehicle and willing to travel.
- Must pass a Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Search, and Child Abuse Registry Check.
- Knowledge and respect of First Nations traditional culture and traditional philosophy.
- Ability to speak and/or understand the Ojibway language would be an asset.
