Expected term: Approximately 14-16 weeks, with at least 200 hours of employment

About the Role

We are looking for an early-career developer who has hands-on experience building AI-enabled software, automations and internal business tools.

You will work under the mentorship of our technical lead. You will begin with clearly defined implementation, testing and documentation tasks. As your skills and confidence grow, you will take greater ownership of features and small projects.

This is a hands-on development role. You will contribute to real BTS and client systems while learning how software moves from a business problem to a working, tested and documented solution.

What You Will Do

- Help build and test workflow automations.
- Connect software tools using APIs and web-hooks.
- Assist with dashboards, forms, reporting tools and internal applications.
- Contribute to frontend and backend application development.
- Help prototype AI assistants and document-processing workflows.
- Clean, organize and transform structured data.
- Write and run tests for software features and automations.
- Reproduce,



investigate and document software bugs.
- Fix clearly defined issues with guidance from the technical lead.
- Help prepare applications and features for deployment.
- Monitor implemented workflows and report unexpected behaviour.
- Write setup instructions, technical notes and user documentation.
- Participate in code reviews and technical planning discussions.
- Communicate progress and blockers before they affect deadlines.
- Follow BTS security, privacy and data-handling practices.
- Help create reusable components for future projects.

Technical Oversight

Changes involving production data, credentials, security controls or major technical decisions will be reviewed and approved by the technical lead.

What We're Looking For

You may be a good fit if you:

- Have foundational programming skills in Python, JavaScript, TypeScript or another modern language.
- Have built at least one school, personal, volunteer or work-related software project.
- Understand basic web-development concepts.




- Are interested in APIs, automation and AI-enabled software.
- Are willing to test and document your work.
- Can break a problem into smaller steps and communicate clearly when stuck.
- Are comfortable receiving feedback and revising your work.
- Can learn independently without pretending to know what you do not know.
- Treat credentials, client information and private data responsibly.

Experience

At least one year of professional, hands-on experience applying AI to working software, automations or business workflows is required.

Experience with Python, FastAPI, JavaScript, TypeScript, Vue, React, Git, REST APIs, SQL, Docker, n8n, Make, local language models, cloud deployment or automated testing would be helpful but is not required.

Program Eligibility

This position is intended to be supported through the Alberta Youth Employment Incentive. Applicants must:

- Be an Alberta resident.
- Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
- Be between 15 and 24 years old at the beginning of employment.
- Meet the program's requirements for a new employee and position.
