Position Overview
Reporting to the Director, Business Development - North, the Building Maintenance Technician will perform maintenance tasks to ensure the safety, upkeep, and smooth operation of the organization’s property. The Position requires a hands-on approach to building maintenance, repairs, renovations, and groundskeeping, including plumbing, electrical, and mechanical support. The Position will oversee and manage the organization’s capital maintenance plan to ensure all building systems and mechanics are functioning to performance standards.
Work Requirements
This is a part time position based in our Edmonton office. Regular working hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. or 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Job Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage the capital maintenance plan.
- Regularly inspect all lights, washrooms, flooring to identify and correct any deficiencies and problems.
- Inspect all building systems and equipment regularly to identify and correct any deficiencies and problems.
- Troubleshoot plumbing, electrical, and mechanical problems when detected and establish a corrective repair plan.
- Coordinate and conduct regular outdoor maintenance activities including snow removal, lawn care, and groundskeeping.
- Ensure building safety by completing preventive maintenance and take action to correct any unsafe conditions inside and outside of buildings.
- Purchase of building maintenance supplies (including cleaning supplies, consumables, toiletries, and FF&E;) with demonstration of both financial and service level accountabilities.
- Arrange, book, and manage the work of service contractors.
- Perform office furniture procurement, assembly, repair and moving as required.
- Ensure an overall understanding of all small appliances in the building and troubleshoot as necessary.
- Maintain a working knowledge of all building systems.
- Monitor and update ticketing system for all on-going projects and tasks.
- Inspect all lawn and snow equipment and complete the required repairs.
- Other general labor or duties as required.

Qualifications
- Experience in basic carpentry, drywall repair, and painting is required.
- Skills in electrical, plumbing, and mechanical repair are considered assets.
- Ability to perform basic maintenance tasks and troubleshoot problems.
- Knowledge of standard methods, materials, safety precautions, WHMIS and hazards involved in the construction and maintenance of specific assignments
- Ability to safely operate equipment and tools.
- Capability to work in various weather conditions and shift patterns.
- Ability to work alone and problem-solve independently.
- Working knowledge of Alberta occupational health and safety legislation, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Code, is considered an asset.
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent).
