About The Role

We are seeking an exceptional Director of Data Engineering to join McKesson Technology US Pharmaceutical Distribution (USPD) Decision Intelligence organization. This leadership role involves spearheading the design, development, and optimization of USPD data products, ensuring they align with strategic business objectives. The successful candidate will set the technical vision for data architecture, manage high-performing teams, and oversee large-scale data initiatives built on modern data stack technologies.

Collaboration with stakeholders across various departments is essential to ensure data capabilities support operational needs and strategic goals. Additionally, the role includes managing data governance, security, and compliance, fostering innovation in data engineering practices, and leveraging emerging technologies to maintain competitive advantage.

Qualifications

Candidates should possess a minimum of 12 years of professional experience in related IT fields, with at least 4 years in leadership, planning, and communication roles. A master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or an equivalent field is required.

Certifications such as Azure Data Engineer Associate, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, and Databricks Professional Data Engineer or ML Practitioner are highly preferred. Proven expertise in Microsoft Azure data services ecosystem, Databricks platform, and modern data architectures is essential.



Candidates should demonstrate robust technical aptitude, experience with AI-driven data platforms, and a track record of leading cross-functional teams in regulated industries like healthcare, financial services, or manufacturing.

Excellent communication skills, innovative thinking, and a customer-focused approach are critical for success in this role.

Responsibilities

- Partner with executives, business leaders, and technology stakeholders to define the data architecture vision and strategic roadmap aligned with organizational goals.
- Drive innovation by exploring and implementing emerging data engineering technologies, platform capabilities, and best practices to maintain a competitive edge.
- Establish and enforce data engineering standards, governance frameworks, and best practices across the organization to ensure data quality, security, and compliance.
- Design, build, and maintain scalable, AI-ready data products leveraging Microsoft Azure ecosystem, including efficient data ingestion, transformation, and storage solutions.
- Lead the advanced implementation of Databricks for large-scale data processing, machine learning workflows, and real-time analytics applications.
- Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of Data Engineering Directors and technical specialists, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Data Science, Analytics, IT, and Business Intelligence teams to deliver integrated, high-impact solutions.
- Develop talent through technical career progression programs, training initiatives, and engineering excellence standards.
- Lead the delivery of USPD data engineering products, ensuring optimal performance, uptime,



and cost efficiency.
- Implement comprehensive monitoring, alerting, and incident response capabilities for mission-critical data systems.
- Partner with the Enterprise Data Platform team to automate deployment processes, incorporate AI accelerators, and adopt DevOps practices for operational reliability.
- Manage technology budgets, vendor relationships, and strategic partnerships to optimize total cost of ownership.
- Leverage AI technologies within the data engineering lifecycle, including automating code generation, optimizing SQL performance, and designing self-healing data pipelines supporting petabyte-scale data operations.
- Ensure all data platforms adhere to security, compliance, and performance standards across environments.
