The team

Toronto Metropolitan University's Facilities Management & Development oversees the safety, development, operations, and maintenance of the university's buildings, facilities, grounds and people across four million square feet of space in 42 buildings on 27 acres of land.

The Opportunity

What does it take to create a university environment where people can learn, teach, research, and work with confidence? Behind every safe laboratory, workshop, and learning environment is a network of people, systems, and practices working together to identify risks, strengthen compliance, and prevent incidents before they happen. As the EHS Technical Coordinator, you'll play an important role in that work—providing the technical, analytical,



and organizational expertise that helps foster a safe and healthy environment across Toronto Metropolitan University.

Working as part of the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) team, you'll help maintain the systems, information, and processes that support critical safety programs across the university. You'll work with laboratories, workshops, and other areas to verify chemical inventories, maintain accurate safety information, and support compliance with WHMIS, chemical safety, and Ontario Fire Code requirements.

You'll conduct site visits and laboratory safety compliance audits, identify gaps and opportunities for improvement, document findings, and help develop practical recommendations that strengthen safety practices. Your ability to combine careful analysis with attention to detail will help ensure that potential risks are identified and addressed before they become bigger problems. You'll also contribute to the development and delivery of chemical, biological, and radiological safety programs and training.

By researching regulatory changes, emerging practices, and industry trends, you'll help ensure that safety resources and training remain relevant and effective for the TMU community.

Technology and information will be another important part of your work. You'll help maintain and improve the EHS Management System, ensuring that critical safety information is accurate, accessible, and effectively managed. You'll collaborate with vendors, project managers, system developers, and EHS colleagues to support system improvements and ensure the tools behind the program work as they should.

Much of your work will happen behind the scenes, but its impact will be felt every day. By helping strengthen safety systems, identify risks, improve processes, and support compliance, you'll help create an environment where TMU's students, faculty, researchers, and staff can focus on what they do best, knowing that their safety is being taken seriously.

Qualifications To help us learn more about you, please provide a cover letter and resume describing how you meet the following required qualifications:

- Completion of post-secondary degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Chemistry, Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in administering or maintaining a chemical inventory or asset management system and safety data sheets, handling hazardous materials, or conducting workplace health and safety inspections.
- Experience in chemical classification and interaction.
- Experience supporting the occupational or environmental health and safety compliance process including inspections and/or incident investigations.
- Equivalent experience or a combination of equivalent experience and education may be accepted in place of education.
