About The Role The Human Resources and Payroll (HR) Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting the operational efficiency of Kativik Ilisarniliriniq by providing comprehensive HR services at the local level. Reporting directly to the Director of HR and collaborating with the Assistant Director, the HR Coordinator manages recruitment, labour relations, payroll processing, and other HR-related initiatives. This role requires a proactive individual with excellent organizational skills, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to work independently across diverse communities.

The HR Coordinator acts as a key point of contact for managers and employees, ensuring that HR policies and procedures are effectively implemented and aligned with organizational goals. Additionally, the role involves frequent travel to various communities within Nunavik to facilitate HR services and support community engagement initiatives.

Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess an undergraduate degree in a relevant field, demonstrating a minimum of three years of post-secondary education, or hold a senior management position with substantial leadership experience. A minimum of five years of relevant experience in HR, recruitment, or related fields is required. Preference will be given to candidates with experience working within a school board or unionized workplace, as well as those familiar with Inuit culture and community dynamics.

Fluency in Inuktitut and at least one other official language of KI (English or French)



is essential. The candidate should also demonstrate solid organizational and management skills, the ability to work independently, and a willingness to travel frequently to Nunavik communities. Knowledge of Inuit cultural practices and sensitivities is highly valued, alongside experience in recruitment and HR management.

Responsibilities

- Collaborate with centre directors to identify staffing needs and update recruitment tools such as job postings and questionnaires, working closely with Montreal-based administration technicians.
- Manage the end-to-end recruitment process, including advertising, candidate selection, and onboarding until the completion of the probationary period.
- Provide regular updates to the Talent Acquisition team regarding local recruitment activities, ensuring accurate data collection and reporting.
- Offer insights and data on recruitment trends and practices at the local and regional levels to inform strategic HR decisions.
- Handle criminal background checks for employees, volunteers, and contractors, ensuring compliance with organizational policies.
- Support employees with regard to their working conditions, including collective agreements, directives, retirement plans, and group insurance through training and individual consultations.
- Address employee inquiries and requests, forwarding relevant issues to the Labour Relations team as needed.
- Participate in disciplinary investigations, climate surveys, and grievance procedures, contributing to a positive and compliant work environment.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of health and safety protocols, promoting best practices across all sites.
- Assist managers and employees with payroll-related matters,



including the recovery of overpayments, attendance management, and data management.
- Ensure the timely and accurate processing of payroll and attendance reports, reporting discrepancies or claims promptly.
- Participate in HR projects, initiatives, and other tasks assigned by the immediate supervisor to support organizational growth and compliance.
