Reporting to the Regional Manager Income Assistance, the incumbent is responsible for providing services to the community for the variety of Income Assistance programs including Social Assistance, Child Day Care Subsidy, Seniors’ Fuel Subsidy and the Nunavut Seniors’ Supplement. You will also be responsible for the integrated delivery of the Income Assistance Program and ensuring that all clients are positioned to make workable, productive choices. Counselling may include referrals to appropriate agencies to address employment barriers.

Responsibilities

The Income Assistance Worker responsibilities are to provide financial assistance to persons in need according to the Income Assistance legislation, referring clients who are ineligible for Income Assistance, or those requiring further counselling to other programs or agencies. You will data enter all appropriate information for each client in a timely manner on the computerized client management system and verifying that documentation is correct and complete. You will be interviewing clients on an individual basis to review client histories goals and perceived needs. You will be making presentations to schools, Inuit organizations, community groups and general public about Income Support Programs. Must be able to pass the statutory training and hold an appointment as a Social Welfare Officer as designated under the Act. You will be required knowledge of Income Assistance legislation,



case management processes and community agencies for referral purposes. You will require counselling skills, excellent interpersonal skills, presentation skills and the ability to work in a computerized environment.

The ability to maintain confidentiality and deal with and defuse contentious situations is also required.

Qualifications

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a recognized diploma or certificate in a related field with related work experience or Grade 12 and two years of related experience. Proficiency in Inuktitut is required for this position. This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a explicit Vulnerable Sector Check is required. Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.
