Position Overview The Designer will contribute to the development of sophisticated, contemporary womenswear collections that reflect the Judith & Charles brand aesthetic. The role will oversee the design process from initial concept and research through sample development and production, working closely with domestic and overseas manufacturing partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Research fashion trends, fabrics, colors, silhouettes, and market developments.
- Develop original design concepts aligned with the Judith & Charles brand aesthetic.
- Create sketches, mood boards, technical drawings, and design presentations.
- Develop and maintain complete technical packages (tech packs) for both domestic and overseas production and development.
- Prepare detailed specifications, including measurements, construction details, materials, trims, labels, stitching and finishing.
- Communicate with domestic and overseas factories, suppliers, pattern makers, and sample rooms to ensure designs are developed accurately.
- Review and comment on prototypes, samples, and fit samples, providing transparent technical corrections and revisions.
- Select fabrics, trims, colors, and other materials for collections.
- Collaborate with pattern makers and production teams to ensure proper fit, construction, quality, and execution.
- Manage sample development and follow up on revisions and approvals.
- Maintain accurate design documentation, technical files, and production specifications.
- Support seasonal collection development from initial concept through final production.
- Monitor development timelines and ensure samples and technical information are delivered according to deadlines.
- Stay informed about contemporary fashion, luxury womenswear, materials, manufacturing techniques, and industry trends.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience in fashion design, product development.
- Fashion Design diploma or degree preferred.
- Strong knowledge of garment construction, fit, fabrics, and manufacturing processes.
- Proven experience creating tech packs for both domestic and overseas factories.
- Strong understanding of technical specifications, measurements, construction details, and garment terminology.
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and other relevant design software.
- Strong communication and follow-up skills when working with factories and suppliers.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple styles, collections, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong understanding of contemporary and sophisticated womenswear.
Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a highly experienced, creative, and detail-oriented Junior Designer who can balance a strong design vision with technical expertise. They should be capable of taking a garment from concept and sketch through tech pack, sampling, fit approval, and final production, while communicating effectively with both domestic and overseas development partners.
A strong portfolio demonstrating design, technical drawing, garment construction, product development, and tech-pack expertise is required.
