Junior Hardware Engineer

Condoplex • On-site, Etobicoke, Ontario, Canada • Full-time •

Our hardware team knows how to ship reliable products, what it hasn't done yet is IoT, embedded AI, and Matter-based connectivity, and we're about to go further still: building our next generation of smart, Matter-enabled devices and laying the groundwork for Edge AI server technology. We're bringing in a junior engineer to be heavily involved in that build, someone who's spent their coursework, internships, or side projects deep in modern embedded, connected-device, and edge AI work, and wants to help build that future with us.

ABOUT CONDOPLEX

Since 1987, Condoplex Systems has been at the forefront of integrated security and communication systems, developing advanced solutions for condominiums, mixed-use buildings, retirement communities, and gated communities. Our products include smart home solutions, telephone entry systems, access/elevator systems, emergency intercom stations, and suite security, all managed through a unified software platform.

Proudly

Canadian, we focus on local manufacturing and support. We're now pushing further into IoT, Matter-based connectivity, and edge AI, including Edge AI server technology, as the next chapter of that platform, with a full next generation of smart, connected devices in active development.

THE ROLE

This is a hands-on embedded and IoT role, not a support seat. In your first year, you'll have been heavily involved in shipping our next generation of smart, Matter-enabled devices — contributing working knowledge of Matter/Thread connectivity the team didn't have before, shipping firmware for at least one connected hardware product,

and prototyping at least one on-device AI feature — with visibility into our early work on Edge AI server technology as that initiative ramps up. You'll work alongside experienced hardware engineers who know the fundamentals cold — your job is to pair that experience with current IoT, embedded AI, and connectivity practices, not to replace it.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

- Design, build, and debug embedded firmware (C/C++) for connected hardware products, using RTOS fundamentals and lab tools (oscilloscope, logic analyzer, multimeter).
- Play a hands-on role in developing our next generation of smart, Matter-enabled devices, from early design through to shipping product.
- Implement and test Matter connectivity alongside Thread, BLE, and Wi-Fi, helping bring standards-based smart-device interoperability into our product line.
- Prototype on-device / edge AI features, lightweight inference, TinyML, or similar, with support from senior engineers.
- Get early exposure to our move into Edge AI server technology, contributing where useful as we build out edge compute capabilities alongside our embedded product line.
- Support board bring-up, functional testing, and validation for new hardware revisions.
- Document embedded designs, test procedures, and firmware behavior clearly enough for the rest of the team to build on.
- Work closely with our existing hardware engineers, sharing what you know about modern IoT and embedded practices as part of everyday collaboration, not as a trainer,

but as a teammate with a different set of recent experience.
- Join code reviews and debugging sessions spanning firmware and hardware.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Required

- 0-2 years of experience in embedded systems or hardware engineering, internships, co-ops, and strong academic or personal projects all count.
- Working knowledge of C/C++ for embedded targets and familiarity with microcontroller fundamentals (e.g., ARM Cortex-M).
- Exposure to RTOS concepts (FreeRTOS, Zephyr, or similar) through coursework, internships, or personal projects.
- Comfort with basic lab equipment, oscilloscope, logic analyzer, multimeter, for hardware debugging.
- Solid, demonstrated interest in IoT connectivity standards, especially Matter, shown through a project, coursework, or hobbyist work, plus real curiosity about where edge compute and Edge AI server technology are headed.
- Strong communication skills and genuine comfort collaborating with engineers who bring deep experience but a different working style than yours.

Preferred (nice to have)

- Hands-on project experience implementing or experimenting with Matter, Thread, or Zigbee.
- Exposure to edge AI/ML concepts, on-device inference, TinyML, or embedded AI accelerators.
- Exposure to edge AI server / edge compute architectures (as distinct from on-device embedded AI), e.g., NVIDIA Jetson, edge inference servers, or similar.
- PCB design or schematic capture experience (KiCad, Altium, or similar).
- Personal projects, hackathon builds, or open-source contributions in the IoT/embedded space.

How to apply

Interested candidates should submit their resume along with a link to any relevant project, coursework, or portfolio work via LinkedIn.
