As a Mechanical Engineering student working with the Maintenance Engineering team, you will help ensure the safe, reliable, and productive operation of all refinery assets. We are the Owner’s Engineer, we lead all mechanical engineering decisions and changes. You will work as part of a team that specializes in troubleshooting complex equipment issues, developing maintenance strategies, and implementing engineering solutions that minimize downtime and optimize performance.
The team works collaboratively with Area Teams, Operations, Reliability, and Planning to maintain code/standards, compliance with regulatory standards, and deliver sustainable asset integrity.
The goal of the team is to enable the Saint John Refinery to operate safely, reliably, and cost-effectively by delivering innovative maintenance engineering solutions. The Maintenance Reliability team is based on-site at our refinery and forms an integral part of the Reliability Engineering group.
Transportation onsite daily to the refinery is the student’s responsibility.
Responsibilities:
- Develop Engineering Work Orders (EWO’s) for the repair and maintenance of equipment and piping
- Submit Management of Change (MOC) requests
- Perform drawing markups for updates
- Perform field walks to investigate jobs
- Liaise with 3rd party contractors, Operations, Project and Maintenance managers and Subject Mater Experts related to pipeline and equipment maintenance
- Ensure all work complies with refinery safety standards and procedures.
- Utilize engineering and productivity software such as AutoCAD, Oracle, Cinetellate, Plant Manager, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office Suite,
and Power Automate for design, documentation, and workflow optimization.
Your Skills:

- Comfortable working with Microsoft Office and Excel.
- Ability to interpret Engineering Drawings
- Ability to interpret Engineering Codes
- Valid Canadian Driver’s license
Your Experience:
- Currently enrolled in Mechanical Engineering completing 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of study
- Returning to school after completion of the work term.
